Carlsberg unveils local voices behind ‘Rhythm of Harvest’

Carlsberg’s Rhythm of Harvest music video launched last year, spotlights local Sabahan and Sarawakian talents such as lyricist Melina William and choreographer Arthur Darren, who merge traditional movement with modern aesthetics.

This year, it shifts the lens to the authentic, behind-the-scenes voices, highlighting the unsung lyricists, choreographers and cultural communities who build the heartbeat of traditional and modern artistry.

Created by locals for locals, Carlsberg released the “People Behind The Rhythm”, a three-part film trilogy that spotlights the authentic stories. music and creatives behind the Rhythm of Harvest in Sabah and Sarawak, and offering a more intimate perspective on the harvest season.

Directed by award-winning Sarawakian filmmaker Sarah Lois who is celebrated for her deep-rooted connection to her Kelabit heritage, this series steps behind the scenes of the Rhythm of Harvest music video to share the personal stories of its lyricist Melina William, choreographer Arthur Darren and artists like Nelson Lip and T. Bagak.

Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini said that Rhythm of Harvest was designed to celebrate Sabah and Sarawak in an authentic way that honors their communities.

“With ‘People Behind The Rhythm’, we wanted to step back and let those voices come through because these are their stories, told in their own way. This is what Raikan Bersama Sabah & Sarawak means to us,” he said.

Choreographer Arthur Darren shares how traditional Bornean dance is blended with modern expression to bridge the gap between elders and today’s generation.

Through three films, ‘People Behind The Rhythm’ traces the lived experiences and creative journeys behind the region’s cultural festivals. It spotlights the voices of local creatives who bridge heritage and modern expression.

Each film explores a different facet of the harvest experience – from personal journeys of reconnecting with one’s roots, to how music preserves memory, and how traditional movement continues to evolve across generations.

Among those featured is Melina William, lyricist of Rhythm of Harvest, who highlights how traditional music carries cultural identity and brings people back to their roots.

Choreographer Arthur Darren shares how traditional dance and movement continue to evolves, bridging generational gaps and keeping heritage alive.
