Tune Protect Group Berhad and Verdant Solar expanded their partnership, alongside Sunway XFarms, to launch the “Sun & Roots: Towards A Greener Future” community initiative at a Sungai Pinang orphanage in Klang, Selangor.
By introducing solar power and hydroponic farming to the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim & Miskin Sungai Pinangin Klang, the initiative provides long-term energy savings and food security for the orphanage.
The collaboration leverages the unique strengths of each organization to enhances both the day-to-day operations and the long-term sustainability of the orphanage.
Tune Protect drives the initiative by fostering community engagement and mobilizing employee volunteers; Verdant Solar delivers clean energy expertise by installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to lower electricity costs; and Sunway XFarms complements these efforts with a hydroponic farming setup to cultivate fresh, sustainable food source locally. Together, these efforts strengthens the orphanage’s self-sufficiency and secures its long-term future.

“As we continue to expand our Corporate Good initiatives, we remain steadfast in our renewed pledge to contribute 6,000 volunteer hours between 2025 and 2027,” added Koot.
A key component of the initiative is the planned installation of a 6.44 kWp solar system on the orphanage’s office and a 9.20 kWp system on the dormitory building, translating into a savings in electricity cost of between RM6,500-7,500 per annum.
The solar panels were symbolically handed over during the one-day volunteering event, with completion targeted by the end of September and mid-October 2026 for it to be fully operational.

Sunway XFarms conducted its “Farming Made Fun” sustainability workshop, introducing hydroponic farming and food security to the children through hands-on activities such as microgreens planting and sustainable farming exercises.
More than 60 volunteers from Tune Protect, Verdant Solar and Sunway XFarms took part in gotong-royong, facility upgrades and landscaping activities to improve the living environment for the residents. The home currently houses 52 children and nine caretakers.
