KLCC’s Sustainable September 2026 expands to Putrajaya, extending its community reach

KLCC Group launched the fourth edition of Sustainable September 2026 to drive collective action for sustainable, people-centred communities, expanding its reach beyond the KLCC Precinct to Putrajaya for the first time.

KLCC Group officially kicked off the fourth edition of its Sustainable September on Sept 7, 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, featuring wellness activities, blood donation and a charity bazaar.

The month-long campaign, under the theme “Shaping the Precinct We Love” expands its reach Putrajaya for the first time, extending its community reach and green initiatives from the KLCC Precinct to Putrajaya for the first time.

It aims to make sustainability more accessible and actionable through four pillars – Move Better, Live Greener, Care Together and Inspire Change – encouraging people who live, work and spend time within the precinct to make practical choices that contribute to creating a better place for all.

The event brings together the Group and its subsidiaries across the KLCC Precinct and Putrajaya, and the community, to drive collective action towards more liveable, sustainable and people-centred communities.

It featured KLCC myLearning Day with over 1,000 participants joining sustainability pledges, blood donation, batik painting and a charity bazaar.

Participating partners include Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Suria KLCC, Petrosains, Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside and The Everly Putrajaya, with Fraser Residence Putrajaya and Destina Putrajaya as the new additions to the partnership.

The event was officiated by KLCC Holdings Sdn Bhd group chief executive officer Datuk Sr Mohd Salem Kailany, which kicked off with a celebrity-led workout featuring local celebrities Atilia Haron and Mimifly, followed by a series of activities that bring the campaign’s four pillars to life through wellness, environmental action, community engagement and sustainable choices in everyday life.

In his keynote Datuk Salem highlighted the importance of collective action in shaping a more sustainable and liveable precinct, including KLCC’s ambition to progress towards becoming a Zero Waste District.

“Sustainable September reflects our belief that shaping a precinct that people love begins with the everyday choices we make and the collective actions we take.

“This year, we are taking the first step towards exploring a more coordinated, precinct-wide approach to waste reduction, in line with the KLCC Sustainability Plan 2030,” he said.

Datuk Salem said the Group is also extending its Sustainable September campaign to Fraser Residence Putrajaya and Destina Putrajaya to create broader community involvement.

“Through greater collaboration across our assets and communities, we hope to turn positive actions into lasting habits and create more liveable places for generations to come,” he added.

By bringing partners and communities together, Sustainable September creates opportunities for people across the KLCC Precinct and Putrajaya to focus on practical, relevant and impactful activities, encouraging people to take small but meaningful steps toward a more sustainable lifestyle.

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre deputy general manager Robert Hatton-Jones emphasised the importance of partnerships in turning sustainability commitments into practical action and creating meaningful experiences that encourage participation.

“Meaningful change happens when organisations, partners and communities come together with a shared purpose. Sustainable September provides a platform for us to translate that purpose into practical and accessible activities – from healthier living and continuous learning to volunteering and environmental action.

“By making these activities engaging and relevant, we hope to inspire more people to play an active role in building a more responsible and connected community,” he said.

This year’s programme introduced a Pledge element, inviting participants to set realistic, meaningful goals that build long-term, healthy habits, with the aim of turning pledges into lasting habits beyond Sustainable September.
