Menara Merdeka 118 has officially received its Fire Certificate (FC) from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), confirming its compliance with stringent fire safety requirements and life safety regulations.

The certification reflects the comprehensive and robust fire and life safety framework, ensuring all systems, infrastructure and operational readiness meet the highest standards for a building of this scale and complexity.

Menara Merdeka 118 now has Fire Safety Certificate.

Menara Merdeka 118, standing at 678.9 meters as the world’s second-tallest building, has implemented the new Automated Fire Monitoring System (SPKA), strengthening its fire safety and emergency response capability through real-time monitoring and enhanced coordination with JBPM, essential for managing risks in a complex high-rise environment where preparedness, coordination and rapid response are essential.

At the presentation of the Fire Certificate to Menara Merdeka 118 on April 14, 2026, Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Hassan As’ari Omar said the Metropolitan Fire Department and the Malaysia Supertall Secretariat (MSS) are ensuring the building maintains world-class fire safety standards.

“For a development of this scale, compliance must be supported by a continuous commitment to system maintenance, operational readiness and adherence to safety procedures.

“The inclusion of systems such as SPKA further enhances preparedness and strengthens coordination during emergencies,” he said.

PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Dato’ Ir Ts Izwan Hasli Mohd Ibrahim said receiving the Fire Certificate is a major milestone, affirming that Menara Merdeka 118 complied with stringent fire and life safety standards.

“As a landmark development, our responsibility extends beyond compliance – it is about ensuring that safety is embedded in every aspect of the building’s design, systems and operations.

“The implementation of SPKA further strengthens our fire safety capabilities, providing an additional layer of assurance through enhanced monitoring and more efficient emergency response,” he said.

Izwan emphasized that as an iconic development, Merdeka 118 must set the standard not only for its scale and ambition, but also in safety.

“Ultimately, this is about giving our tenants, visitors, and the wider public confidence that when they are in Menara Merdeka 118, they are in an environment that meets world-class standards not only in its facilities, but also in how it is managed and protected,” he added.

The 678.9-meter Menara Merdeka 118 met all required fire and life safety standards, ensuring high-level security for occupants and visitors.

Present at the event were PNB Merdeka Ventures advisor Dato’ Tengku Ab Aziz Tengku Mahmud, safety, health and environment head Faizal Malek, Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department senior assistant fire commissioner Yusri Basri and Crystal Solaris directors Aimi Syahirah and Datuk Cham Nong Aliap.

Menara Merdeka 118 is a key development supported by the Malaysia Supertall Secretariat (MSS), a newly established fire safety organisation in Asia for buildings exceeding 300 metres. MSS plays an important role in strengthening fire safety and emergency management through strategic collaboration between building owners and JBPM.
