The Union of Pos Malaysia Uniformed Staff (UPUS) has won the Best National Trade Union Award (Private Sector) at the National Workers’ Day 2026 celebration held at Unifi Arena, Bukit Jalil on May 1, 2026.

The award recognizes the union’s strong commitment to employee welfare, industrial relations and workforce advocacy.

The award was presented by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with UPUS represented by its president Ismail Ali, and secretary, Nikmatullah Abu Bakar Citi.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Human Resources Minister Dato’ Sri Ramankrishnan, Deputy Minister of Human Resources Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Pos Malaysia group chief people officer Natalia Navin said the prestigious accolade highlighted the company’s commitment to prioritizing its workforce and fostering an inclusive environment.

“This award is especially meaningful because it reflects the progress we have made in building a workplace where employees feel heard, supported and empowered to grow.

“At Pos Malaysia, we believe strong employee relations are essential to organisational resilience and long-term success, especially for a national service provider whose people play a vital role in connecting communities and businesses across the country.

“We are proud of this achievement and will continue to foster an inclusive environment where our people can thrive,” he said.

UPUS president Ismail Ali said the recognition highlighted the union’s commitment to worker welfare and its collaborative, harmonious ties with management.

“Through close cooperation and mutual respect, we have been able to champion workers’ welfare and work constructively with Pos Malaysia and government agencies for the benefit of employees.

“We value this relationship and remain committed to strengthening collaboration in support of the workforce and the organisation’s future,” he said.

The collaboration between Pos Malaysia and UPUS has fostered a highly engaged and committed frontline workforce, resulting in enhanced operational efficiency and tangible service improvements.

Delivery performance has improved to 92% for parcels and 95% for mail in 2025, exemplifying how constructive labour-management relations can drive operational efficiency while delivering value across employees, customers, communities and the wider organisation.

The award also reflects UPUS’ commitment to advancing workers’ rights and wellbeing while fostering strong industrial relations with Pos Malaysia. It recognises the union’s role in building employee solidarity, protecting members’ interests and supporting the resilience of Malaysia’s postal and logistics industry.

The recognition highlights the importance of strong employee relations in supporting Pos Malaysia’s nationwide operations and long-term sustainability. It reflects the company’s collaborative approach to employee relations, grounded in open dialogue, shared responsibility, and support for employees’ wellbeing.

The award recognizes Pos Malaysia’s progress in responsible workplace practices and broader Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) priorities, while creating long-term value for both its workforce and the business.

The Best National Trade Union Award is one of the highest honours presented during Malaysia’s National Workers’ Day. It is assessed by the Department of Trade Union Affairs (JHEKS) and an expert panel. Recipients are evaluated on leadership, union management, industrial relations, worker welfare initiatives, and contributions to national workforce development.
