McDonald’s Malaysia is providing over 6,000 meals to victims of the recent Kampung Bahagia fire in Sandakan, Sabah.
A massive fire swept through the Kampung Bahagia floating village on April 19, 2026, destroying an estimated 1,000 homes and leaving hundreds of families in urgent need of assistance.
McDonald’s Malaysia’s Sandakan teams delivered food to affected families at Temporary Relocation Centres (PPS) and emergency personnel, including frontliners and volunteers on the ground, supplying 2,000 meals initially with an additional 4,000 meals across five PPS scheduled through the end of the week.

McDonald’s Malaysia managing director and local operating partner Dato’ Azmir Jaafar emphasized community solidarity during difficult times, particularly in the aftermath of the Kampung Bahagia fire in Sabah, ensuring no one faces challenges alone.
“The response we’ve seen across Sandakan reflects that shared responsibility, and we hope these collective efforts bring some comfort to those affected,” he said.

The initiative supports the community alongside a broader collective response from local authorities, volunteers and community groups, focusing on ensuring access to food and shelter to ensure immediate access to essentials.
Agencies including the Department of Social Welfare, the Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, RELA, and volunteers remain actively involved in coordinating relief on the ground.

McDonald’s Malaysia continues to demonstrate its commitment to community outreach through significant relief initiatives, reinforcing its core community support pillar by addressing food insecurity and supporting families in crisis, such as the Kampung Bahagia fire in Sandakan.
“At McDonald’s Malaysia, our purpose is to feed and foster the communities we serve. Whether in times of celebration or difficulty, we remain committed to supporting those around us in meaningful ways,” Dato’ Azmir added.
