In conjunction with the upcoming Kaamatan and Gawai festivities, Carlsberg Malaysia has unveiled its latest ‘MesmeRICEsing’ artist-edition packaging, bringing the cultural pride and heritage of Sabah and Sarawak to life through intricate rice art by two local artists.
Available only in East Malaysia, this year’s edition features four iconic designs “By locals, for locals” on Carlsberg Smooth Draught and Carlsberg Danish Pilsner, capturing the spirit of Borneo through celebrated symbols such as Mount Kinabalu, the hornbill, the orangutan and the sape.
Each artwork, created by Sabahan artist Nelson Lip and Sarawakian artist T. Bagak, is a heartfelt nod to the region’s stories, traditions and people.
Back for the fifth consecutive year, the artist-edition packaging reinforces Carlsberg’s commitment to honouring local traditions through design and craftsmanship.
Carlsberg Smooth Draught’s packaging brings Borneo’s essence to life, with Sabah’s design depicting Mount Kinabalu, Malaysia’s tallest peak, while Sarawak’s design features the hornbill perched above a longhouse, a symbol of cultural heritage and good luck.
Carlsberg Danish Pilsner, on the other hand, embraces the region’s rich heritage with Sabah’s design highlighting the orangutan and the rafflesia. The other design celebrates Sarawak’s cultural traditions with rhythms of the sape and the warmth of the traditional longhouse.

“The essence of Gawai and Kaamatan is deeply tied to the harvest and rice. Carlsberg honours that heritage, embracing the unity, gratitude and celebration at the heart of these festivals.
“We’re thrilled to once again ‘Raikan Kebanggaan Sabah & Sarawak’ with a stronger focus on local pride as we collaborate with two talented local artists, whose designs beautifully capture the spirit of Sabah and Sarawak, making every celebration #BestWithCarlsberg,” said Carlsberg Malaysia marketing director Olga Pulyaeva.
The annual Carlsberg’s Carls Harvest Pesta returns with a 4-day cultural celebration taking place at Farley Kuching from May 15 to 18, 2025.
The celebration is filled with live performances, hands-on experiences, free Tuak Bombs and the spirit of unity that defines these harvest festivals. Early birds will receive a free can of Carlsberg to welcome them to the festival.
In addition, consumers can also get their hands on the collectable MesmeRICEsing plates, one celebrating the iconic symbols of Sabah and the other highlighting the essence of Sarawak via in-store promotions, and stand a chance to win Apple 16 Pros, 11-inch iPad Air or Apple Watch Series 10.
