Yeo’s launched its new canned Teriyaki Tuna with a Japanese-themed roadshow called “Yeo’s Itadakimasu – Tuna with a Twist” at The Starhill Ground Floor Piazza in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur from Oct 2 to 4.

The new canned offering combines tender tuna with a sweet and savoury Japanese-inspired teriyaki sauce, joining its existing pantry lineup like Yeo’s Chilli Spicy Tuna.

Yeo’s country general manager Tan Mei Yen said Yeo’s has always been driven by a spirit of innovation, balancing balances modern consumer lifestyles and wellness trends with its century-old Asian food and beverage heritage.

“From being among the first in Malaysia to introduce canned curry chicken to the familiar flavours Malaysians have grown up with, we continue to explore new flavour inspirations from around the world, bringing fresh and relevant choices to the table.

“With Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna, we are taking this journey a step further by introducing a Japanese-inspired flavour that brings a contemporary twist to a familiar pantry staple, creating new possibilities for families and younger generations to enjoy Yeo’s in ways that fit today’s tastes,” she said.

With a heritage built on pioneering food and beverage innovation, Yeo’s has continuously evolved, expanding its offering to bring Asian flavours and everyday convenience to consumers.

The strategic introduction of tuna leverages both its nutritional profile and its deep-rooted familiarity among Malaysian consumers.

Tuna ranks as the fourth most frequently consumed marine fish in Peninsular Malaysia, according to a dietary study published in Food & Nutrition Research.

Recently, figures from Malaysia’s Fisheries Department also reported that 431,000kg of tuna worth RM7.76 million entered Penang in 2024, which is more than double the volume recorded in 2023, reflecting the state’s growing role in Malaysia’s tuna industry.

Together, these insights highlight the continued relevance of tuna as a staple in Malaysia’s culinary and seafood landscape due to its versatility, nutritional profile, and deep-rooted presence in both traditional and modern diets.

As consumers today want quick, convenient and tasty meals that still support a healthy and balanced lifestyle, Yeo’s is responding with a fresh flavour direction by launching its new Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna.

“We know that Malaysians appreciate food that is convenient, versatile and full of flavour.

“With Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna, consumers can enjoy the savoury taste of teriyaki in a format that is easy to incorporate into everyday meals, whether enjoyed on its own, paired with rice or noodles, or used to create their own dishes,” added Tan.

Beyond introducing a new flavour, Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna positions itself as a healthy, convenient option by combining flavour with key nutritional benefits like high protein and Omega-3 fatty acids.

The roadshow features interactive experiences like Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna sampling, a stamp-collecting adventure, a Japan-inspired photobooth, a Gashapon game, and a Cosplay Competition.

Visitors can win prizes ranging from Yeo’s products and Touch ‘n Go reloads to onsen vouchers and a flight ticket to Japan.

Yeo’s also took its Japanese-inspired experience to the streets of Bukit Bintang with a guerrilla activation inspired by Tokyo’s iconic Shibuya Crossing. Dressed in traditional Japanese wafuku, including kimonos, the guerrilla crew brought an unexpected touch of Japan to the area, creating memorable moments for members of the public.

Yeo’s also kicked off the ‘Yeo’s To Japan Contest’, offering travel tickets and other prizes.

Consumers can join the “Yeo’s To Japan Contest – Win Tickets to Japan”, running from Oct 1 to Nov 30, by purchasing participating Yeo’s products including Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna or Yeo’s Chilli Spicy Tuna, and sharing a creative post on social media.
