Phoenixdarts Malaysia launches My Dart Academy, ushering a new era of darts

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok (centre) officiates the launch of My Dart Academy, a new initiative aimed at developing the sport of soft dart.

Phoenixdarts Malaysia has launched its My Dart Academy, a bold new initiative to develop the sport of soft dart nationwide and a first in the country.

The academy represents a major milestone in the company’s mission to elevate darts in Malaysia – from grassroots to national stage.

The official opening was held at this year’s Hari Sukan Negara happening from Oct 10-11, 2025 at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

“Hari Sukan Negara is all about bringing people together through sport – and that’s exactly what darts does best,” said Phoenixdarts Southeast Asia director Sean Choi. “With My Dart Academy, we’re building a platform that’s open to everyone. This is the beginning of a long-term investment in people, talent and community through the game of darts.”

The academy has built a structured, inclusive and professional path for aspiring dart players across the country, focusing on three key communities – para-athletes, youth and public sector participants.

The academy will provide accessible coaching, competitive opportunities, and community-driven development aimed at growing the sport from the grassroots up.

During the event which saw sports like brisk walking, aerobics, chess and sepak raga tuju, Phoenixdarts took over the darts zone for two days of competition.

On the first day Oct 10, the Trios Game in Soft Dart format showcased team strategy, high-speed scoring and competitive energy, while on the second day Oct 11, the Double AB tournament featured two categories – an inclusive Para Dart Game and an Under-18 Game.

Beyond the competition, the My Dart Academy launch sends a clear message: darts is no longer just a social game – it is a growing, competitive and legitimate sport in Malaysia.

Through the academy, participants will get access to professional-grade equipment, certified instructors, digital scoring technology and opportunities to compete both locally and internationally.

Darts as a sport is growing in popularity in Malaysia. With minimal physical barriers to entry, low cost and a strong emphasis on focus, discipline and hand-eye coordination, darts is uniquely positioned to become the next big sport for Malaysians of all backgrounds.
