Genting Culinary Classic 2025 concludes successfully with Budiman crowned champion

The inaugural Genting Culinary Classic 2025, held on June 10-11, 2025 at the Genting International Showroom, concluded with resounding success.

Budiman Bistari Mohamed from Batu Kurau, Perak, clinched the champion title in the cooking competition in which 20 finalists showcased their culinary flair, creativity and mastery under pressure.

The sous chef who works in a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur captivated the judges with his dish called Ayam Goleh Buah Kulim – a dish praised for its rich, smoky aroma and bold, earthy depth, elevated by the unique, slightly bitter complexity of the rare buah kulim.

Budiman took home the ultimate prize of RM25,000 in cash and other prizes,  and his winning dish will be featured at Resort World Genting’s world-class dining outlets.

“The Genting Culinary Classic 2025 was more than just a competition. We’re proud to champion local and regional talent while elevating Malaysia’s position on the global culinary map,” he said.

The top five winners walked away with prizes worth up to RM64,000.

The competition was judged by a panel of five culinary experts, including celebrity chef Martin Yan, who not only served as a judge but also captivated the audience with a live cook-off, presenting a specially curated signature dish.

The competition held in collaboration with the Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards (HAPA) and in association with Tourism Malaysia, is part of Resorts World Genting’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

The competition received an overwhelming number of submissions from participants in this first-year event, highlighting the growing enthusiasm and passion for culinary excellence across the region.

Celebrity chef Martin Yan, who not only served as a judge but also captivated the audience with a live cook-off, presenting a specially curated signature dish.

From July 1 to Sept 30, 2025, Chef Yan’s creations will be featured at High Line and Old Friends Restaurant, alongside the winning competition dishes available at selected F&B outlets across the resort.

In line with Tourism Malaysia’s “Visit Malaysia 2026” campaign, RWG’s Genting Culinary Classic exemplifies its aims to positioning Malaysia as a must-visit destination for food lovers from around the world, spotlighting the country’s diverse culinary heritage and rising talents.
