
After years of closure, Malaysia’s cherished Stadium Merdeka has triumphantly reopened its doors to the public.
Restored to its 1957 glory with meticulous care and enhanced by modern refurbishments, this iconic landmark comes alive once again and is ready to welcome a new generation while preserving its historic legacy.
Since its reopening on August 17, 2024 this historic venue has become a bustling hub of activity, hosting a total of 209 events spanning culture, arts, education, heritage and sports.
Most recently on Dec 14, 2024, Stadium Merdeka showcased The Journey of Sound concert by artistes Judika and Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, captivated over 28,000 local and international fans.

“We are honoured to have spearheaded the restoration of Stadium Merdeka, an iconic national landmark where our first Prime Minister declared Malaysia’s independence.
“Today, this historic venue is revitalised and ready to welcome all Malaysians, serving as a dynamic space for community gatherings, cultural celebrations and sporting events.
“We warmly invite everyone to experience the renewed spirit and legacy of Stadium Merdeka,” said Dato’ Tengku Ab. Aziz Mahmud, chief executive officer of PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd (PMVSB), the custodian of Stadium Merdeka.

Under its educational initiatives, Stadium Merdeka has become a dynamic hub for learning, creativity and cultural preservation.
A key programme includes monthly cultural dance classes for youths and adults, cultivating an appreciation for traditional Malaysian dance.
Additionally, Craftiviti Workshops have been conducted in Stadium Merdeka since August 25, 2024, focussing on batik painting. More than 221 participants have attended these workshops, fostering creativity and hands-on learning.
Stadium Merdeka has also made significant strides in promoting arts and heritage through a series of engaging activities.
The Stadium Merdeka Surrounding Tour has attracted both local and international visitors, offering an immersive journey into the rich history, architectural beauty and enduring legacy of this renowned stadium.
Alongside this, the Stadium Merdeka Tour and Heritage Displays offer an insightful glimpse into Malaysia’s cultural treasures, sharing captivating stories from the past.

Furthermore, Stadium Merdeka has become a hub for sports and fitness activities such as yoga, Zumba, tai chi and aerobics sessions.
Community football tournaments have drawn remarkable interest, with nearly 100 games held to date and enthusiastic participation from schools, seniors aged 50 and above, working people and even the Klang Valley football teams.
The stadium has also hosted track and field events, attracting schools from neighbouring areas.
Open and accessible to all, the stadium continues to be a space where sports enthusiasts and the community can come together to stay active.
The stadum also offers the opportunity for the public to run or jog on the track, depending on availability.

Stadium Merdeka has welcomed local communities through vibrant community markets, which have been held twice to date since the reopening, with the most recent market taking place from Nov 29 to Dec 1, 2024.
These markets provided local entrepreneurs, artisans and vendors the opportunity to showcase their products, while creating a sense of connection and support among visitors.
Participants from the Merdeka 118 Community Grants Programme have also been actively involved in these markets, further strengthening local businesses and creative talents to share their work with the community.
With all these activities, Stadium Merdeka continues to come alive with community spirit and is going as strong as it was in the past.
