Maybank Islamic partners with Mercy Malaysia to launch “Add Good to Cart” initiative

The “Add Good to Cart” initiative empowers Malaysians to contribute to community and sustainable emergency funds online.

Maybank Islamic Bhd has partnered with Mercy Malaysia to launch the “Add Good to Cart” campaign, a social initiative to raise awareness and inspire the public to donate to a community emergency fund.

The social initiative targets to raise RM100,000 by May 2023.

From December 12, 2022 onwards, Malaysians can go to Mercy Malaysia’s homepage and select the “Add Good to Cart” campaign icon to donate to an emergency relief fund of their choice at https://www.mercy.org.my/agtc/

The funds collected will act as social funding for emergency responses, recovery, mitigation and preparedness in times of disaster for humanitarian and health-related development.

Maybank Islamic CEO Dato’ Mohamed Rafique Merican said as a leading institution shaping the future of Islamic Finance, Maybank Islamic is committed to play its role in the country by using its reach and resources to invest in the common good.

“The Add Good to Cart initiative is called as such because we are seeing more Malaysians turning to online shopping these days. Tapping into this behavior, we want to raise awareness on the benefit of contributing to emergency funds while at the same time, inspiring online shoppers to pro-actively do-good by donating instead of only donating during an emergency.

“We have seen how when the going gets tough for some segments of society, generous Malaysians did not shy away from doing their part to help in one way or another. We are hopeful that this Add Good to Cart initiative can also bring about the same impact,” said Mohamed Rafique adding that this is also in line with Maybank Group’s M25 sustainability goals and commitment to improve the lives of one million households across Asean by 2025.

Mercy Malaysia executive director Shareen Shariza Dato’ Abdul Ghani.

Mercy Malaysia executive director Shareen Shariza Dato’ Abdul Ghani said this latest initiative with Maybank Islamic provides an innovative funding platform for members of the public to contribute towards.

“This partnership is a brilliant showcase of civil society partnership that leverages one another’s resources and expertise to expand humanitarian aid.

“One of the main issues we face as an NGO is sustainable funding, that will allow us to make timely and strategic humanitarian responses, especially during emergencies. Through this partnership and campaign, we hope that we have made it simple for all Malaysians to do their part for social good,” she said.

“Mercy Malaysia has adopted the Humanitarian-Development Nexus approach that requires us to coherently address community’s vulnerability before, during and after crises. Thus, our work is continuous at all phases of humanitarian response.

“With funding support, we will be able to strengthen our capacity to proactively and effectively deliver health-related solutions toward resilient communities,” added Shareen.
