Twenty-six beauty queens from the world over, including from the continents of Asia, Europe and Africa, vying for the title of Miss CosmoWorld 2022 were officially revealed at a press conference held at Ibis Hotel, Kuala Lumpur City Centre on Nov 22, 2022.
Malaysia is represented by 24-year-old model and content creator from Perak Angela Looi, who was recently crowned Miss CosmoWorld Malaysia 2022.
The world finals of the 5th edition of Miss CosmoWorld pageant will be held at the St Regis Kuala Lumpur Hotel on Nov 30, 2022
The winner of Miss CosmoWorld 2022 will receive USD100,000 cash sponsored by rebate platform GETBATS.
In her welcome address, Miss CosmoWorld founder and organizer Carrie Lee shared, “Miss CosmoWorld advocates and promotes the idea that women should be independent and possess good leadership qualities.
“The purpose of this pageant is to promote women not just to be identified as beautiful in appearance but rather, as having beauty enhanced with confidence, great health and a personality and mentality that shines from within.”
Carrie added, “This is our fifth year and to make it more interesting and challenging for all delegates, we are offering one of the biggest cash prizes in pageant history. The winner will walk away with USD100,000 to start her own business.”
Miss CosmoWorld 2022 organizing chairlady and Miss CosmoWorld 2021 first runner-up Joyce Chao said the contestants will have an exciting line up of activities and events during the pageant week culminating in the grand finale on Nov 30.
“Participating contestants will engage in a series of activities which include workshops, teambuilding, charity program, horse-riding session, photoshoots, tour of the historic city of Malacca, and sponsors visit, among others,” she said.
Apart from the Top 3 titles, twelve subsidiary titles will also be up for grabs. Among the titles are Miss Personality, Miss Charming, Miss Perfect Body, Best National Costume, Miss Glamourous and Miss Photogenic.
Representing Uzbekistan in the pageant this year is 27-year-old Amaliya Shakirova.
“I feel so excited for this opportunity to represent my country Uzbekistan in such an event.
“This is my first pageant experience. I guess it’s normal to feel a little bit stressed and anxious but I am learning new things and having a lot of fun here so far.
“All the girls here have good looks and good personality.
“I will prepare well as the contest will be tough and I want to do my best to represent Uzbekistan,” she said.
Amaliya is a student in the English Program and hopes to be multilingual in learning other useful languages as well, including Malay language
She works as a part-time model and has appeared on runways for major fashion brands in several countries, including Japan and Italy.
Amaliya said she finds Malaysia interesting and loves Chinese and Indian food. “I have tried dumplings, chicken rice, chapati, naan and roti canai and they all taste great!”
Another candidate for this year’s event includes Miss Thailand Onnapun Na Chiangmai, 26, a part time stock trader.
“I feel so happy to be here in Malaysia and I look forward to have a magnificent experience in the pageant.”
Onnapun has been participating in local pageants in Thailand for the past five years and this is her first participation at the international level.
“I am prepared mentally and physically for this pageant.
“I want to have a great time here. I will give my best and hope to at least make it to the Top 5.”
Onnapun, who has a Bachelor degree majoring in finance and banking, volunteers for the Learn for Love, a home for disadvantaged children in Thailand.
“I provide clothes and holistic education for the kids so that they can have a bright future.”
For Onnapun, she is having a craving for some Malaysian curry food goodness.
“I must admit I love the thick curry food here, especially the ones that taste spicy and sour at the same time. They taste different than the ones I can find in Thailand.”
Onnapun enjoys hobbies such as reading, gardening, shopping and travelling.
