Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) deputy secretary-general (culture) Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff announced the commencement of the first-ever Precious of Malaysia festival to embrace Malaysia’s traditions, culture and heritage through fashion, giving attendees a grasp of the nation’s unique and biodiverse ethnicities.

“Precious of Malaysia 2022 will be a prime example of a great tourist attraction for locals and foreigners to perceive and appreciate Malaysia’s immense diversity of cultures, some of which dates back to nearly 600 years ago, all under one roof.

“Having the festival at University of Malaya will not only showcase a unique historical landmark in Kuala Lumpur but also remind and educate the rakyat on the importance of preserving our culture and heritage for generations to come,” he said.

Another highlight will be the Cultural Fashion Week fashion design competition, which will equip university students with the foundation to create their own fashion brands.

Supported by Motac, the festival marks the efforts and contributions of the organizers to promote Malaysian culture to local and international visitors, as well as being the platform of creative expression and entrepreneurship for university students to develop essential skills and attributes to excel in the fashion industry.

“We believe this festival serves as a representation of Malaysia, all in one event. Not only do we hope to play a vital role in preserving and displaying our arts, culture and heritage sites for local and international visitors, but also to drive individuals who have a passion for fashion, to pursue their passion and by providing them education which will help them achieve their career goals,” said FM Group and Precious of Malaysia president Farel Mikhail.

“As such, the Precious of Malaysia Festival 2022 will also serve as a platform for local designers to express their talent and showcase their best designs for cultural and traditional costumes that are sure to leave visitors in awe,” added Farel.
