MR DIY recently contributed prize hampers to Malaysian Federation of the Deaf (MFD) for its education centre Taska and Tadika Istika Jaya OKU Pendengaran, in conjunction with their sports day.
Over 15 prize hampers comprising stationery and educational toy sets were handed to the children by the home improvement retailer’s community outreach team, MR D.I.Y Cares.
The 16 children from age 3 to 12 years participated in a variety of learning activities and games such as bean bag, rice sack and giant clogs races, as well as glass tower building during the sports day held at the education centre in Puchong, Selangor.
In a separate programme, MR DIY also contributed ten hampers as prizes for a children fashion show contest organized by a shopping mall in Putrajaya.
The contest, held in conjunction with Merdeka Day, saw more than 30 participants aged 12 years and below dressed up as iconic legends Tan Sri P Ramlee and Puan Sri Saloma.
“With activities back on track post-pandemic, it is time for Malaysians, especially children, to enjoy the activities they have missed these past two years.
“As a homegrown retailer, our role is not only to support Malaysians with our promise of ‘Always Low Prices’ but also to promote programmes that bring a positive impact on society.
“We hope our contribution will bring joy to the children and inspire them to be active,” said MR D.I.Y. Group chairman Dato’ Azlam Shah Alias.
Taska and Tadika Istika Jaya (OKU Pendengaran) is the only community-based education centre in Malaysia that provides and accommodates early education programme for the deaf and hard-of-hearing children from childcare centre (Taska), kindergarten (Tadika) and transit programme (for primary school).
