Tropicana Corp Bhd, through its charity arm Tropicana Foundation, gave back to the Johor community in fitness, family and festivity.
The property developer provided a RM500,000 sponsorship to the Johor Rugby Union.
Its charitable efforts also included donations of 500 packs of bubur lambuk, 200 packs of clothing and 100 care packs to civil workers, homes in need and charitable organizations.
Recipients included Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim, Rumah Anak Yatim Syafar Johor Bahru, Majlis Perbandaran Pontian, Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru, Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Iskandar Puteri, Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Iskandar Puteri and Balai Polis Gelang Petah, as well as homes in need within the Tropicana Danga Cove community.
Tropicana managing director of Southern Region Projects Karen Lee said the group is committed to building up a wholesome community as well as giving back to the people.
“This year, we want to continue to give back to the Johor community, taking part in a charitable sponsorship and donation drive centred around fitness, family and festivity.
“This included support for the Johor Rugby Union, in appreciation of its role in bringing people together in the spirit of sportsmanship. We also channelled aid to families in need as well as civil workers, distributing care packs and festive bubur lambuk packets to hospital workers, fire and rescue personnel, and police staff,” she said.
Karen said the group’s donation to the Johor Rugby Union supports its emphasis on healthy lifestyles and embodied in its Tropicana go-go-FIT campaign which is ongoing until end-2022.
The campaign emphasises physical and virtual fitness activities across the group’s townships and developments.
Five Tropicana developments, namely Tropicana Uplands, Tropicana Sanctuary, Tropicana Alma, Tropicana Industrial Park and Lido Waterfront Boulevard donated RM100,000 each towards the Union’s annual programme and the preparation of athletes for tournaments at the national level.
Karen said the group is committed to making a difference through its sustainable business practices and approach to corporate responsibility from the environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) perspective.
In Johor, Tropicana has implemented ESG initiatives such as a flood mitigation system for Lido Waterfront Boulevard, as well as the creation of spacious green lungs, and use of energy-efficient features such as LED street lighting in Tropicana Industrial Park and Tropicana Uplands.
