Mesra Run 2.0 draws 2,000 participants, doubling last year’s inaugural turnout

Mesra Run 2.0 drew 2,000 participants at Mesra Mall, Kemasik, in Kemaman, Terengganu on October 10, 2026, doubling last year’s turnout of 1,000 runners in the inaugural edition.

The event was the grand highlight of a three-day program from October 8 to 10, 2026, held in conjunction with the Terengganu-level Hari Sukan Negara (HSN) 2026 celebrations.

Participants comprised 1,455 in the 5km Fun Run and 545 in the 10km category, alongside the 3km Berjalan Ria Madani family walk. Last year’s edition featured only a 5km fun run.

Due to hazy weather conditions, the 10km competitive route was shortened to over 5km as a safety precaution, with prize structures remained unchanged.

The run was flagged off jointly by Francis Tan, executive director and chief executive officer of Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd, which manages Mesra Mall; Aziam Muhammad, general manager of Mesra Mall; and Asmadi Mohamad, director of the Terengganu Youth and Sports Department.

The Hari Sukan Negara 2026 at the Terengganu level was officiated by Terengganu federal development director Datuk Abdul Kahar Abdul Latif.

Aziam said the response from participants, supporters and the Terengganu Youth and Sports Department have been encouraging.

“The Mesra Run 2.0 event is also a continuation of our mental health awareness campaign, which emphasises the importance of physical health as one of the factors supporting mental wellbeing,” she said.

She added that the event is part of Mesra Mall’s efforts to position itself not only as a shopping destination, but also as a community hub offering space for leisure and recreational activities for families.

Mesra Mall hosted 14 other sporting events, from archery and badminton to e-sports and the Sports Carnival Inspire OKU Active.

The programme was designed so that children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities (OKU) could take part, in support of a healthy body and mind.

In his speech, Datuk Abdul Kahar said the event aims to encourage people in the state to make sports and fitness part of their daily lives.

“We want participation in sports to keep growing and active lifestyles to be sustained at all times,” he said.

The HSN 2026 themed “Sports and Artificial Intelligence Technology” emphasizes more inclusive public participation, encouraging a sustainable, active lifestyle for all segments of society, including children, senior citizens and OKU.

Meanwhile, Francis Tan highlighted the community and economic impact of Mesra Run 2.0.

“Mesra Run is part of the national agenda, and hosting it at Mesra Mall brings people together to shop, spend time with one another and be part of a three-day celebration, which also contributes to the economy of Terengganu as a whole,” he said.

“We made sure everyone has a place in it, from children and the elderly to persons with disabilities, because we want to promote a healthy body and a healthy mind for the whole community,” he added.
