Tropicana Corp Bhd, via its charity arm Tropicana Foundation, has reached out to support two animal shelters in need with volunteer activities and donation of food and supplies.
Tropicana Foundation volunteers pitched in to clean cages, prepare food and walk the dogs during their visit to My Pets Haven, Setia Alam on Sept 27 and PAWS Animal Welfare Society, Ara Damansara on Oct 15, 2022.
The Foundation also donated over RM4,000 worth of food and supplies in total to the two animal shelters, including 380kg of dry pet food, 50L of hand wash liquid, 60L of bleach and 60kg of soap powder.
Tropicana group managing director Dion Tan said the campaign was an important one to raise awareness on the issue of abandoned pets and strays in the society.
“This charitable endeavour marks the growth of Tropicana Foundation as we extend aid to our furry friends.
“Animal welfare is an important issue that needs to be addressed. These homeless animals have their rights but in the long run, strays on our streets equally pose a possible threat to public health in the long term.
“As a society, we all have our roles to play and with this initiative, Tropicana will endeavour to redefining the art of living for both our community as well as animal,” Tan said.
My Pets Haven founder Aileen Lee, 65, said spaying and neutering in both dogs and cats are important to help reduce the number of strays and unwanted animals, and slow population growth over time.
“The people need to start adopting pets and stop buying them.”
Lee added that the shelter constantly needs funding for food and medical treatment for the animals.
Running the shelter alone, Lee, known as Aunty Aileen to those who come to her, starts her day as early as 5am to walk the dogs, prepare their meals, clean their cages, and other routines. She relies greatly on volunteers for help with all the chores to provide a conducive and clean environment for the cats and dogs at her shelter.
At PAWS, the shelter which is currently housing more than 400 cats and dogs, also needs volunteers and donations in cash and kind from the public to help provide the care to abandoned animals.
