Nicole Fe Lynne, partner and national director of Miss Malaysia Kebaya.

Miss Malaysia Kebaya partner and national director Nicole Fe Lynne said so far they have received a great response from excited applicants, each hoping for their chance to become crown winners in their respective categories.

“The response is just amazing as we have the highest record we ever achieved in years. And moreover it is during the pandemic which is just really surprising. I believe maybe everyone had been in lock down for too long, they are hungry to be able to experience physical events again.

“I was just taken aback by the response especially from supportive parents who have signed their kids. Some even signed up all of their three kids and we have mothers competing together with their children so it’s just really encouraging,” she said.

Nicole said the search started since April 2021 until June 2021 but resumed in November 2021 as physical events are now allowed to take place with SOP in place.

“We have more than 120 enquiries and more than 90 contestants so far have registered for the competition.

“The number of finalists would be determined through online zoom pre-qualifications and would proceed to the Grand Finals.”

Nicole revealed, “One of the judging criteria for finalists is to have ambition, dreams, to give back to the society and help the needy. Overall, we are not only looking for a good figure and pretty faces in adults but also for a role model to portray a presentable educational image in culture.”

During the Grand Finals, each contestant will be judged on their on-stage presentation, overall personality, appearance, catwalk and intelligence during the Q&A.

“The winner must be someone who knows how to carry herself to be able to represent the title, be a spokesperson of the sponsors, brands and Malaysian culture especially Kebaya and Baba Nyonya culture.

“For kids and teenagers we focus more on their charisma, personality and energy. Being brave, friendly, confident and outgoing is one of the most important qualities to win the judges’ hearts.

“All in all, we are looking for the whole package in a winner.”

Nicole pointed out that the objective and aim of the pageant is to empower children, young girls and married women through education and cultural awareness.

“Education, whether formal or informal, is fundamental in today’s world as we are always progressing and we must keep learning. I want to build and instil confidence and leadership skills in contestants as it will bring more impact and meaning for their purpose of joining a pageant.

“At the end of the pageant, my greatest achievement, happiness and satisfaction is to see the finalists transform into a new person. Whether they win or not, they are still grateful for their enjoyable journey with us,” she said.

Applicants will be required to pay a registration fee of RM50 to begin their journey.

The closing date for entries is Nov 25.
