Legoland Malaysia Resort launches Legoland School Challenge 2026

Legoland School Challenge 2026 introduces the “Ultimate Theme Park Ride” challenge, a high-stakes speed build finale and global grand prizes.

Legoland Malaysia Resort has launched the Legoland School Challenge 2026, the fifth edition of Asia’s biggest Lego school competition.

The competition brings together students from across the region to showcase creativity, collaboration and innovation.

Registration begins on March 13 and closes on April 26, 2026, with the grand finale tentatively in September 2026 at Legoland Malaysia Resort.

The 2026 Challenge revolves around the captivating theme of “The Ultimate Theme Park Ride,” which should be magical, futuristic, space-themed or underwater.

Organised in partnership with Malaysia’s Ministry of Education, the 2026 edition aims to inspire the next generation of innovators through hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning, grounded in the Lego philosophy of learning through play.

Since its inception in 2022, the Legoland School Challenge has grown from a local initiative into a regional platform, igniting imaginations and attracted hundreds of submissions from schools across Asia.

This year, student teams of three to four participants across three categories – Junior (7–9 years), Primary (10–12 years) and Secondary (13–17 years) – are tasked with designing an imaginative theme park attraction that includes at least one clearly defined ride vehicle or carriage.

The build, whether magical, futuristic, space-themed or underwater, should represent a complete ride experience, showcasing creativity, functionality and build quality, ideally with moving elements.

Teams should aim for moving elements (manual or motorized) to earn extra points, and are encouraged to use creative displays or dioramas to showcase their theme park ride.

Teams are required to submit a 50 to 100-word description in English detailing the story behind their Lego creation.

“The Legoland School Challenge has evolved into more than a competition – it is a regional platform that empowers young minds to think boldly, collaborate across cultures, and turn imagination into innovation,” said Legoland Malaysia Resort vice president Cs Lim.

“By launching this year’s Challenge in Singapore, we are reinforcing our commitment to building stronger regional participation and giving students across Asia the opportunity to showcase their creativity on an international stage. Via learning-through-play, we are nurturing future-ready skills that extend far beyond the classroom,” he added

The 2026 Challenge introduces several enhancements, including “Make or Break” speed build which account for 30% of the total score, up from 20% in previous years; extended build time to one hour, up from 45 minutes; a surprise theme element, revealed on the event day and may differ from the main competition theme; and a 15-minute “Parents & Teachers Challenge” to showcase their creativity alongside the student teams.

This year, Legoland Malaysia has once again partnered with global online travel agency Trip.com to reward the best builders. Primary and Secondary Category champions will visit Legoland Shanghai to celebrate their victories, while the Junior Category champions win a trip to Legoland Malaysia.

The top five teams in each category will compete in the Grand Finale at Legoland Malaysia, where they will stay at the Legoland Hotel for three days and two nights, competing live during the finale event and have their final builds showcased to park guests through the end of 2026.

All category champions will receive a Legoland Malaysia Annual Pass, an iconic Lego trophy, Lego sets for each team member, and a certificate of achievement.
