BYD and Sime Darby Motors, the sole distributor of BYD vehicles in Malaysia, have launched the BYD Seal electric sedan model at the outdoor Raintree Plaza @ The TRX Exchange, Kuala Lumpur on Feb 22, 2024.
The BYD Seal is available in two models: BYD Seal Premium with starting price from RM179,800 and BYD Seal Performance from RM199,800
The launch was attended by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, as guest of honour, together with Sime Darby Berhad group chief executive officer Dato’ Jeffri Salim Davidson, Sime Darby Berhad motors division managing director Andrew Basham, Sime Darby Motors Southeast Asia managing director Jeffrey Gan, BYD Asia Pacific auto sales division general manager Liu Xueliang and BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director of Eagle Zhao.
The BYD Seal is equipped with e-Platform 3.0, featuring the world’s first 8-in-1 electric powertrain. It elevates the driving experience with eye-catching 19-inch alloy wheels boasting 235/45 R19 specifications.
The BYD Seal’s battery has a total capacity of 82.5 kWh.
The Premium features a single-motor RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) configuration with maximum power of 230 kW (308 hp). Range is around 570 km of WLTP-rated range and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
On the other hand, the Performance model gets a dual-motor AWD (All-Wheel Drive) configuration. Its maximum power is 390 kW (523 hp) with 520 km of WLTP-rated range and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
The BYD Seal measures 4,800mm long, 1,875mm wide and 1,460mm tall with its spacious interior offering 400L of boot space and an additional 50L under the bonnet.
Dato’ Jeffri Salim Davidson said the introduction of BYD Seal in Malaysia represents a noteworthy addition to the company’s growing EV market.
“With its advanced technologies, impeccable design, and remarkable performance, the BYD SEAL is undoubtedly one of the most compelling EVs in the market today. The interest shown by consumers leading up to the launch has been overwhelmingly positive. We are excited to see how it will reshape e-mobility in Malaysia and the region,” he said.
Meanwhile, BYD’s Liu Xueliang said the launch of BYD Seal is pivotal for BYD in Malaysia, promising to set new standards in the electric driving experience.
“The vehicle is the epitome of what BYD stands for – innovation, quality and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Designed for convenience and efficiency, it has a distinctive value proposition as a high-technology electric sedan that offers significantly greater space for families and individuals,” he said.
The Premium model is available in Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey and Aurora White colours. The Arctic Blue is exclusive to the Performance model.
The first 800 bookings will enjoy complimentary wallbox chargers and free Gentari or ChargEV charging credits worth RM800.
