The top lion dancers from all over the world will be competing at the 14th Genting World Lion Dance Championship at the Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting (RWG), Genting Highlands, Pahang from August 4-6, 2023.
The excitement is building and fans of the whimsical and endearing performance turned extreme sport can look forward to three exciting nights of mesmerizing performances as their favorite international lion dance troupes from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Australia and many more will gather at the resort to compete for the world champion title.
“Resorts World Genting is thrilled to host this yearly event once again because Malaysians of all races enjoy the lion dance,” said RWG events and entertainment assistant vice president Roger Ong.
The preliminary rounds of the competition are slated for Aug 4-5, and the top teams with the highest scores will advance to the championship round on Aug 6.
The champion this year will take home a US$15,000 cash reward, trophy and medals. The prizes for the first and second runners-up are USD$8,000 and USD$5,000, along with a trophy and medals, respectively.
The remaining eight finalists will each receive a trophy and cash prize of USD$1,500.
The highly coveted East and West Lion King trophies, since its inception at past tournaments, will also be awarded to the top teams from Asia and Western countries.
In addition, there is the special Golden Drum Award for the drummer troupe as chosen by the judging panel, and the People’s Choice Award as voted by the audiences.
The one-day pass is priced at RM60.00 (PS2 – free seating), while the three-day pass is priced at RM230.00 (PS1 – Numbered seat), and RM140.00 (PS2 – free seating).
Tickets for children shorter than 95cm are priced at RM50 without a seat.
