Property developer NCT Group has inked its latest memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Open University Malaysia (OUM), following earlier MOUs with Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) and VTAR Institute (VTAR).
The MoUs with tertiary institutions are set to play a role in shaping the local workforce in tandem with the changing workplace landscape where Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) will see the utilisation of smart technology and enhanced efficiency to enable greater productivity and higher income levels.
By unlocking opportunities to hone skillsets and capabilities, these initiatives will ensure that graduates are better prepared for the 4IR workplace.
NCT Group founder and managing director Datuk Seri Yap Ngan Choy said that 4IR will be a core contributor to the country’s digital economy and the collaboration with OUM will support the transformation of their students to better meet the needs of a 4IR workplace.
“Our continued investment in 4IR-based initiatives via collaborations with tertiary facilities will allow us to share relevant industry experience with young graduates by providing real-life understanding of industry experience and expectations.
“Given the rapidly-changing business landscape, it is important for students to become more highly skilled by understanding new techniques and smart systems that will sustainably integrate organisations and people as we become a high-income nation,” he said.
The signing ceremony took place between Ngan Choy and Multimedia Technology Enhancement Operations Sdn. Bhd (METEOR) group chief executive officer Muhammad Afiq Redzuan.
Other guests present in the momentous occasion were NCT Group executive director Dato’ Yap Fook Choy and METEOR group chief commercial officer Muhammad Nurhadi Zainol.
OUM is owned by METEOR, a consortium of 11 Malaysian public universities.
“We commend the NCT Group for stepping forward to provide opportunities for our students. The time has come to start preparing students for 4IR so that they can acquire more defined skills and meet the new demands and challenges of the ever-changing workplace.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to strengthen our learners’ foundation of competencies and make them even more future-ready,” said Muhammad Afiq.
An integral component of addressing future needs, 4IR represents disruptive transformation of industries through the application of emerging technology. It is characterized by new technology that integrates the physical, digital, and biological worlds, which will have an impact on all disciplines, industries and the economy.
