Pavilion Kuala Lumpur’s award-winning themed precinct, Tokyo Street, celebrates its 11th anniversary, in conjunction with the 40 years of Malaysia’s Look East Policy.
Launched by Japanese ambassador to Malaysia Katsuhiko Takahashi, the Tokyo Street’s celebrations this year promises plenty of Japanese activities, culture and arts, shopping and dining.
The highlight of the 11th anniversary is the Art of Kimono exhibition held at the Centre Court from now until July 31, which features more than 100 pieces of Japanese kimonos, yukatas and fusion Japanese dresses that blend pop culture and Malaysian batik elements.
A selection of these beautiful pieces is showcased in a ‘Art of Kimono’ fashion show from Tuesday to Sunday at the Centre Court.
It also features specially curated Japanese artisanal pop-up stalls selling handcrafted tableware, decorative items, accessories, bags, towels, skincare and beauty products.
Over at Tokyo Street, located on Level 6, shoppers will be transported to the streets of Harajuku where they can indulge in Japanese cuisine at pop-up booths selling sushi bentos, Yatai Ramen, green tea and beer from Asahi.
There is also an anime, comics and games-themed (ACG) celebration organized in collaboration with Animangaki, which is one of Malaysia’s largest animation, comics and games conventions.
There will be cosplay competitions, dance competitions and live musical performances on July 30 and 31. Popular Malaysian cosplayers Hakken, YingTze and Preston will meet fans in special meet and greet sessions.
The AniManGaki marketplace offers shoppers the chance to purchase limited edition figurines, handmade crafts, Ichiban Kuji and Gachapon.
As part of the celebration, shoppers who spend over RM200 through a combination of two receipts at Tokyo Street, or one receipt mall-wide, will be eligible to participate in a Lucky Draw contest and stand a chance to win more than RM160,000 worth of prizes from Isuzu, with the grand prize winner driving home a new Isuzu ride!
There are also gifts and shopping vouchers for those who spend RM80, RM100, RM150 or RM300 at Tokyo Street or specialty stalls.
