Watsons Malaysia raising awareness of breast cancer, healthy lifestyle through health carnival

The Get Active Jom Sihat Carnival 2024, hosted by Watsons Malaysia in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, drew over 8,000 participants.

Held on Oct 19 at the Piazza, Pavilion Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur, the event was aimed at increasing awareness about breast cancer and encouraging healthier lifestyles.

This year marks the 10th year of the actively-packed Watsons Get Active Carnival.

“This event highlights Watsons’ ongoing dedication to empowering our customers and members to lead healthier, more active lives.

“The Get Active initiative has grown significantly over the years, while Pink Hope continues to serve as a vital platform for engaging the public in meaningful, health-focused activities,” said Caryn Loh, managing director of Watsons Malaysia and chief operating officer, Health & Beauty Asia, A.S. Watson Group.

She said, “This year, we are focusing on inspiring individuals to prioritize their well-being through exercise, nutrition and mental wellness, with support from Watsons’ health advisors, pharmacists, and nutritionists.”

The event kicked off with a fun run, followed by yoga sessions, an energetic pound routine, lucky draw sessions, a healthy cooking demo, and ended with a Zumba session.

Participants also had the opportunity to explore the Health and Beauty Bazaar with over 30 stalls, offering product samples, wellness services and interactive activities.

Watsons’ team of pharmacists was also on-site to prove health checks, reinforcing Watsons’ commitment to overall wellness.

The carnival also featured a series of health talks on breast cancer prevention and early detection led by subject matter experts from the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) Malaysia, Universiti Malaya and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

BCWA also hosted a breast check station to encourage participants to take proactive steps toward their health.

“Through our PinkHope charity kits, we have also taken the initiative to raise funds for breast cancer survivors, ensuring they receive essential post-surgery support.

“Additionally, we will contribute RM5 from each ticket sold for this carnival to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association for their effort and dedication in helping those in need.” Caryn Loh added.

The Pink Hope Kit, consisting of health and beauty items and a voucher worth more than RM296, was created to raise funds for the purchase of custom-made bras for breast cancer survivors.

The kit is priced at RM49 and available at Watsons’ stores nationwide and online.
