Tropicana Corp Bhd has signed a hotel management agreement with Marriott International to build a five-star 270-key Sheraton Langkawi Resort & Spa at Tropicana Cenang, Langkawi.

The property developer stated that the collaboration came as Langkawi saw increasing tourist and investor interest, with potential to reach a pre-pandemic tourism peak of four million arrivals annually.

Tropicana group managing director Dion Tan said this was the group’s third hotel collaboration with Marriott International, continuing its going expansion plans in Langkawi and strengthening its presence in the hospitality segment.

“Building on Tropicana’s long-standing and fruitful partnership with Marriott International, we are excited to develop this five-star Sheraton Langkawi Resort & Spa at the popular Pantai Cenang beachfront,” he said.

“Leveraging on the strategic location and increasing tourism footfall in Langkawi, we are confident that this 270-key hotel will draw a lot of interest from tourists.

“In addition, Tropicana Cenang is a unique mixed development offering residential, hospitality and commercial components. With all these components in place, the planned hotel underscores our commitment to continue redefining the art of living in Langkawi,” Tan added.

A big thumbs up for marking another successful milestone for Tropicana and Marriott.

The agreement was signed between Tropicana subsidiary Cenang Resort Sdn Bhd, represented by Dion Tan, and Marriott International Inc, represented by Kevin Chen, senior vice president of Asia-Pacific Hotel Development, Marriott International.

Marriott International Asia Pacific hotel development senior director Andree Susilo said the collaboration further strengthened their commitment to bring a host of choices across its brands to consumers in the country.

“This is our third collaboration with Tropicana, with the first two being the popular W Kuala Lumpur and Courtyard by Marriott in Penang.

“Once opened, Sheraton Langkawi Resort & Spa expects to offer urban conveniences as well as majestic skyline views of the surrounding, stunning Langkawi landscape,” he said.

The Sheraton Langkawi Resort & Spa will complement Tropicana Cenang mixed development.

Designed by award-winning architects and consultants, Sheraton Langkawi Resort & Spa is expected to feature 270 modern guestrooms and suites. An elevated mix of food and beverage options include an all-day restaurant, beach-front restaurant, pool bar and destination roof top bar.

Spanning 5.3 acres with an estimated gross development value of RM1.4 billion, Tropicana Cenang offers direct access to Pantai Cenang. Nearby amenities include Cenang Mall, ZON Duty Free, Perdana Quay Eco Marine Park, Sky Bridge, Langkawi Wildlife Park, Underwater World Langkawi and local night markets, with Langkawi International Airport just 9km away.
