Tropicana Foundation, the charity arm of Tropicana Corporation Berhad, has undertaken various initiatives to support vulnerable communities and keep frontliners healthy and safe during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In line with this year’s Merdeka celebration and theme of Malaysia Prihatin (Malaysia Cares), Tropicana extended its support to four institutions across three states throughout August 2021 as it continues to fulfill its mission to give back to the community during this time.
Tropicana Foundation donated 220 kg of fresh patin fish as well as 62kg of fresh vegetables to an orphanage Rumah Kasih Harmoni Paya Jaras in Sungai Buloh, Selangor. A total of 97 children of the home have been infected with Covid-19.
Together with its agriculture arm, Purple Pumpkie and Greenhouse, the Tropicana team organized and packed various fresh produce could provide enough sustenance to lighten the burden of caretakers as well as to provide nutritious meals for the children for three weeks.
The fresh produce included patin fish, tomato, kangkung, spinach, sweet potato leaves, brinjal, long beans, mustard green leaf, and Japanese cucumber.
In Johor, Tropicana’s southern team contributed a total of 300 bags of dry food essentials to the Jawatankuasa Pembangunan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JPKK) at Kempas and Pusat Latihan Pemimpin Muda (PULAPEM) at Renggit for ensuring the basic amenities reach the seniors and other vulnerable communities who were affected by the pandemic.
Tropicana contributed a total of 7,100 protective gears to the Pahang state government and these gears will be used by the frontliners at PPV Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Ahmad Shah, a vaccination centre in Kuantan. The items included masks, face shields, disposable gloves, coveralls, gowns, aprons, shoe cover and headcover to protect the health and safety of frontliners on duty at the vaccination centre.
“The current restrictions on public movement are challenging for many, especially the underprivileged communities. This is a good time for us to reach out and support in whatever way we can. With our humble donations, we hope to keep everyone safe and healthy during this period,” said Tropicana Corp group managing director Dion Tan in expressing his gratitude to Tropicana team for reaching out to the underprivileged during these challenging times amid the pandemic.
