The Genting World Lion Dance Championship 2023 gears up to lion dance fans once again as it steps into the Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting (RWG) this August 4-6, 2023.
Fans can look forward to exciting nights of mesmerizing performances of magnificent lions prancing and executing death-defying acrobatics on poles to the deafening beat of drums and clashing of cymbals.
Thirty-six international teams from around the world including USA, China, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Australia, France, Myanmar, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan and host Malaysia will compete for 11 spots in the competition.
The preliminary stage of the championship will be held on August 4-5, and the final on Aug 6.
The 14th edition of Genting World Lion Dance Championship promises to push the boundaries of competition and audience engagement to levels never before seen this time around.
Roger Ong, RWG entertainment and events assistant vice president stated during the press conference and drawing of lots to determine the fixtures for the preliminary round of the championship: “We are psyched to welcome once again the best lion dance troupes from all around the world to showcase their skills right here at Resorts World Genting.”
Ong added: “And as in previous years, we are honoured to work with the Selangor & Federal Territory Dragon and Lion Dance Association to bring this spectacular and immensely popular display of Chinese culture and world class showmanship to Genting.”
The Genting World Lion Dance Championship 2023 winner will take home US$15,000 cash, trophy and medals, whilst the first and second runners-up will receive US$8,000 and US$5,000, respectively together with trophy and medals.
Eight consolation prize winners will each receive US$1,500 cash and a trophy.
In addition, the coveted East and West Lion King trophies will also be awarded to the top teams from Asia and western nations.
The Golden Drum Award and People’s Choice Award will each offer a cash prize of US$1,000.
The one-day pass is priced at RM60.00 (PS2 – free seating), while the three-day pass is priced at RM230.00 (PS1 – numbered seat), and RM140.00 (PS2 – free seating).
Tickets for children shorter than 95cm are priced at RM50 without a seat.
