KLANG – The aim of the event was to create a platform for the general public to share love and respect for the elderly and to give back to society.
The Charity Group of Persatuan Penganut Dewa Tian Sze Fu in Happy Garden, Klang held its 2nd Annual Chinese New Year Charity Event to bring festive cheer to old folk and the underprivileged.
The event took place at an open space opposite the temple on Feb 9, 2020 with 135 recipients for the charity programme comprising senior citizens above 65 years old from the general public, regardless of race and religion; and old folks and underprivileged individuals from five charity homes in Klang Valley.
The five charity homes were House of Love, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Insan Istimewa Kuala Lumpur, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak Kanak Terencat Akal, Tiam Yam Toh Teng Old Folks Home and Persatuan Perengurusan Rumah Jagaan Orang Tua Chik Sin Thong Klang Dan Pantai Selangor.
Charity Group head Gan Wai Hoong said the aim of the charity event was to create a platform for the general public to share love and respect for the elderly especially during festive seasons and to give back to society and help the needy.
The event was officiated by Port Klang state assemblyman Azmizam Bin Zaman Huri, accompanied by three temple advisors Dato’ Lim Kim Hwi, Dato’ Roger Tan and Mejar Dato’ Tan Kee Fatt.
Also in attendance at the event were several VIPs namely Lim Ser Chew, James KH Tan and Chiew Vin Chong who witnessed the charity cheque presentations.
The charity event has received an overwhelming response with total cash of RM11,000 raised from generous donors; foodstuff, adult diapers and a water filter were solicited from sponsors and donated to the five charity homes, whereas 85 senior citizens from the general public received goody bags and ‘ang pows’.
Guests gathered under the tents and were treated to a variety of food sponsored by public and entertainment from volunteers of pageant group lead by Ruth Yap with songs and dances during the event.
