The winners and runner-ups were selected by a panel of industry experts who included, among others, Malaysia’s award winning menswear designer Bon Zainal, former beauty queen and Miss CosmoWorld founder Carrie Lee, and world-renowned green activist and international judge for Miss Earth finals Matthias Gelber.
Contestants were judged on their discipline, dedication, communication skills, overall appearance, presentation, personality, character, attitude and willingness to learn and improve. Each of the four categories focussed on different skillsets and judging criteria.
During the final, viewers were treated to performances by international singer Winnie K, celebrity singer Datin Maylene Yong, violin artiste Jessica Loo, and violinist Dr Julian Lee and guitarist Eric Ooi playing as a violin and guitar duo.
MMK founder and president Dr Jason Hee said the creative, educational and lifestyle-based show was conceptualised and formulated during the Covid-19 pandemic and MCO period.
“To adapt to all the restrictions we are facing today and to quickly adapt to the new normal, MMK turned what was initially a physical event into a virtual one. Through this online competition, we hope to encourage and inspire aspiring models and talents to learn new things during the Covid-19 pandemic and not to give up hope in achieving their dreams.
“The winner that we are looking for must be able to represent The Next Look as the next generation of talents and to be a role model of success to all,” he said.
The panel of local and international judges had narrowed down their first-round from a pool of over 300 contestants to 80 semi-finalists, and then down to the final 37 through a rigorous judging process.
The contestants have diverse backgrounds and interests and came from all over the world.
