Tesla Model Y debuts in Malaysia

Tesla launches its first electric SUV, Model Y in Malaysia.

Tesla has launched its all-new electric SUV, Model Y, in Malaysia at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur on July 20, 2023.

It is available in three variants – Rear Wheel Drive, Long Range and Performance – with price starting at RM199,000 and delivery to Malaysian customers slated for early 2024.

The Model Y will be displayed at Pavilion, starting July 20 until October 30 for public viewing and ordering.

Model Y is the newest and most affordable electric SUV designed and built as Tesla’s first mass-market SUV, and represents a critical step in the company’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

Being a mid-size SUV, Model Y offers 2.1 cubic meters of cargo space, providing versatile seating and storage for up to 5 passengers with their belongings.

Under the bonnet of the Tesla Model Y is a storage area for carrying or storing things. 

Tesla regional director Isabel Fan in unveiling the new model said the car represents a critical step in Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

“Tesla is committed and excited to help drive a zero emission and greener future for Malaysia,” she said.

As part of Tesla’s commitment to Malaysia, the company has unveiled a comprehensive development plan for experience centres, service and support, as well as charging infrastructure in the country.

“The first indoor supercharger station with a total of eight superchargers at the basement parking area of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur will be open soon,” Fan said.

“Tesla’s plan includes opening multiple supercharging stations at strategic locations to cover popular destinations across the country, including in Penang and Johor,” she added.

With Tesla supercharging, Model Y, operating at peak efficiency of 250 kW, can charge up to 120 km in just 5 minutes.
