
Sungei Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur has launched its 2026 Chinese New Year (CNY) campaign themed “Sungei Wang Village: Street of Memories”, running from now until Feb 24, 2026.
The campaign is curated to evoke the warmth of traditional village life, offering locals and tourists a nostalgic journey through cultural heritage and heartfelt festive experiences.

The grand launch was held on Jan 28, 2026, officiated by Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board deputy director-general (promotion) Samuel Lee Thai Hung, together with Sungei Wang Plaza Management Corp chairman Ng Yih Chen, Sungei Wang Plaza general manager Joseph Teo and 8TV head Wong Yee Lee.
Ng said the Sungei Wang Village campaign reflects the mall’s commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for shoppers.
“We will continue to provide an open platform where people from diverse cultural backgrounds can come together to share and experience Malaysia’s rich and vibrant festive traditions.
“Hence, through our partnership with Weixin Pay, we also hope to encourage more tenants at Sungei Wang Plaza to adopt Weixin Pay, enabling Chinese tourists to make payments easily on a trusted platform, while strengthening our visibility and engagement in the China market,” he said.

The ceremony started with dynamic lion dance performances, followed by a Yee Sang tossing session and performances by dance group 1119, featuring special New Year songs.
During the launch, Sungei Wang Plaza also formalised a strategic collaboration with Weixin Pay (commonly known as WeChat Pay) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
The partnership, aligned with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, aims to enhance travel and payment convenience for tourists shopping at Sungei Wang Plaza.

Visitors are welcomed by charming village-inspired decorations that transform every corner of Sungei Wang Plaza. Traditional lanterns, street-style elements and festive accents come together to recreate the familiar sights of a kampung New Year, evoking childhood memories and the simple joys of festive celebrations past.
A key highlight this year is the collaboration with MinNature Malaysia, featuring intricate miniature scenes that depict cherished traditions such as reunion dinners, lantern craftsmanship and lion dance making – allowing visitors to rediscover cultural stories through fine details and immersive displays.

Sungei Wang Plaza general manager Joseph Teo said the mall has thoughtfully created a festive environment that offers a refreshing and meaningful experience for shoppers.
“Through the Glow of the Twelve Zodiac Light Display, our collaboration with MinNature’s miniature art showcase, and the lion dance craftsmanship exhibition, we hope to bring the warmth and emotions of traditional Chinese New Year celebrations back to the city centre -allowing visitors to reconnect with the beauty and significance of festive traditions beyond shopping,” said Teo.
“Anchored by immersive cultural experiences, this year’s campaign also features festive installations designed for photo moments and social sharing. These interactive elements encourage engagement while enriching the overall shopping journey with meaningful storytelling and cultural appreciation,” added Teo.

One of the key highlights of the campaign is the Twelve Zodiac Light Display, located at the main entrance of Sungei Wang Plaza, offering visitors a light-hearted glimpse into the zodiac fortunes of the Year of the Horse, adding both visual delight and cultural meaning to the celebration.
Sungei Wang Plaza invites visitors to explore the world of traditional lion dance through The Lion Dance Experience, featuring exhibitions, interactive workshops and live performances.
Exhibits showcasing lion head craftsmanship and cultural heritage will be displayed at the main entrance and Centre Court, offering insights into the artistry behind this iconic tradition.

Children can participate in the Young Lion Dancer Workshop, while lion dance performances from Feb 17 to 20 will further elevate the festive atmosphere across the mall.
Throughout the campaign period, Sungei Wang Plaza will host a wide range of festive programmes, including cultural performances, singing competitions, ukulele performances and children’s talent contests.
Weekly CNY festive craft workshops are also curated for all age groups, allowing visitors to create meaningful handmade pieces while engaging hands-on with festive traditions.
In addition, a series of artiste meet-and-greet sessions will take place during the celebrations, offering fans the opportunity for close interaction and memorable experiences.

A vibrant CNY bazaar at the Centre Court offers shoppers a relaxed and enjoyable shopping experience with a diverse range of traditional and contemporary festive items, including handcrafted Chinese teas, decorations, traditional cookies, gift hampers, nostalgic childhood snacks and cheongsams.
Adding a unique local touch, a CNY bazaar at the main entrance showcases nostalgic village-style charm and a curated selection of delicacies from various new villages across Malaysia.
The launch event also featured the premiere of the “A Meal of Love” CSR initiative teaser video, reflecting Sungei Wang Plaza’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Shoppers who spend RM188 and above in a maximum of two same-day receipts can redeem a set of Year of the Horse Ang Pao packets with an AirAsia Rewards festive promo code, while those who spend RM388 and above in a maximum two same-day receipts can redeem a festive blessing mug.
Additionally, CapitaPlus members who spend RM588 (maximum two same-day receipts) and above are entitled to redeem a festive bowl set.
This CNY, Sungei Wang Plaza collaborated with Lizz Kitchen to bring festive joy and care to Joy Garden Semenyih. The initiative included a reunion meal prepared by The Twelve, complimentary haircuts by A-Saloon Academy, donation of daily necessities and home repair support by the Sungei Wang Plaza Management.
