Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) had pledged to donate RM10 with every purchase of the specially-designed tee shirts to Rumah Ozanam, Petaling Jaya, a home for young female children aged between 10 to 19 years old, as part of its cervical cancer awareness campaign in January this year.
The hospital has fulfilled that community service pledge with a donation of RM1,200 to the welfare home recently.
Rumah Ozanam PJ honorary secretary Francis Xavier and administrator Priscilla Joseph received a mock cheque for RM 1,200 presented by Kristine Williams, head of marketing and communications of SJMC.
“Every bit of support is valued and it is gratifying to have SJMC coming forward to do their part for Rumah Ozanam. Given this particular cause is especially relevant for girls, we are also grateful to have the opportunity to help our young residents be more aware of this disease which we understand can be dormant for years,” said Xavier.
As part of its month-long campaign to spread public awareness on cervical cancer, SJMC had partnered with local female artist Malar Sinnadurai, founder of The Children’s Art Studio, who designed the tee shirts that featured a teal-coloured ribbon to symbolize the fight against cervical cancer. The hospital had pledged to donate RM10 to Rumah Ozanam from every tee shirt purchased.
