Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) has rolled out a dedicated programme for the elderly this year under its RSD Cares umbrella, creating a better quality of life for Malaysians.

Starting with the Woodrose Senior Residences, a nursing home providing specialised elderly care, the programme provides free eye screening and ambulance services for medical emergencies to residents aged 65 to 90.

The eye-checkup involved comprehensive eye screening procedures including optometric examination, visual acuity and auto refraction.

The residents were screened by a team of SJMC medical specialists who included ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon Dr V. Ulagantheran Viswanathan; ophthalmologist and glaucoma surgeon Dato’ Dr Linda Teoh Oon Cheng; and optometrists Naseha Hussain and Shaleni Subramaniyam.

“Eyecare is crucial in the detection of visual impairment in the elderly. The critical outcome of treatment is vital towards improving and maintaining a good quality of life.

“The pandemic also brought its share of hurdles in healthcare and the elderly, who are among the more vulnerable. Through this programme, we are able to do our part as a socially responsible entity,” said SJMC consultant ophthalmologist Datin Dr Teoh Su Lin.

SJMC is part of the Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare (RSDH) Group’s network of hospitals. Driven by its philosophy of ‘People Caring for People, the RSDH Group of hospitals is reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility via three key pillars: Caring for our People, Caring for our Planet and Caring for our Community. SJMC is leading the way for the group under the Caring for our Community pillar.
