The Super GT Final Countdown Party grabbed all eyeballs at the Empire Shopping Gallery in Subang Jaya on Saturday.

The party, courtesy of the race organiser of JP Performance Motorsport (JPM), was to kick-start the 2011 Autobacs Super GT Round 3, the Malaysian round of the Japanese Super GT series, to be held at Sepang International Circuit on 18 to 19 June.

Proceedings began at 4pm and ended way past 10, giving car enthusiasts a taste of race day at Sepang circuit, which hosts the only Super GT race held outside Japan.

A GT display car provided some static mechanical excitement, but the number by Japanese GT Queen Ayami Sasaki and Malaysian GT Queen Jillayne Ting really got them motoring.

There were other acts lined up, of course, such as the Waidako Japanese drum performance; a flash mob dance by performing arts students of UiTM Shah Alam; a convoy of 25 Renault Megane cars; and a reggae band performance by Coca d Monday. All this, in addition to a mini-bazaar, clowns, balloons, children’s colouring contest and a GT sports car simulator.

“Come to Sepang for the Super GT Round 3 and we promise you nothing short of a spectacular weekend of entertainment,” said said JPM managing director, TJ Chin to the crowd of enthusiasts and diehard fans of Super GT.

“We have partnered with Touch’n Go to make this sporting event completely cashless. Ticket holders with the Super GT special edition Touch’n Go card will be granted access to Hillstand B and purchase of all food, beverage and other merchandise during the Super GT weekend.

“We have also sealed a historic deal with RTM which will air highlights of all the nine rounds of the Super GT series on RTM1 and RTM2, including the Sepang race.

The MC for the day was the gorgeous and lovely Sofea who got the crowd going with her clear voice and great stamina throughout six hours. (Full report with more photos to come)
