In the spirit of caring and sharing, the Curve shopping mall in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya brought early Raya cheer to some 30 orphans from the Rumah Permata Hatiku, a welfare home in Kuala Lumpur.

Upon arrival, the young guests and their caretakers were given a warm welcome by the Curve’s management team, as they made their way into the mall’s centre court which has been transformed into a traditional kampung atmosphere.

The centrepiece for the Hari Raya decor was the intricately decorated kampung house surrounded by green shrubs and shady trees.

The children beamed with excitement as they played an array of traditional games of yesteryear for the first time such as congkak, batu seremban and kaki panjang, and then watched dancers performed to classic Malay songs in the Kenangan Manis Musical about the tale of the good old days of kampung life and spending Raya with family.

The Curve senior general manager Jazmi Kamarudin presented goody bags and duit raya to the children, before they adjourned for a buka puasa meal at The Curve’s Marhaba Restaurant.

“It is our annual tradition at the Curve where we give back to those who need it most, especially during the festive seasons. Something as simple as sharing a meal together can make a world of difference and this is something which we want to give to our esteemed guests. We hope they have a great time with us today and we are honoured to have had this opportunity to break fast together with our young guests,” said Jazmi.

The event was part of the mall’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program where they give back to the community by reaching out to the less fortunate to ensure that they are not forgotten during the festive season.
