With students returning to schools for the new term starting in March 2023, Nestle Malaysia is collaborating with Empire Project one again to support 2,500 students and 1,200 households from less privileged communities across Malaysia via its Back-to-School initiative.
As part of this programme, 70 Nestle Cares volunteers mobilized to pack and distribute school essentials, and food and beverage products worth nearly RM800,000.
Each kit included a backpack with school uniforms and shoes, stationery sets, food containers and water bottles, as well as products such as Nestle Everyday, Nestum All Family Cereal Original and Milo Activ-Go.
175 Orang Asli students at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Bumbun (Asli) in Pulau Carey, Selangor were amongst the first beneficiaries of the program, which aims to reach a total of 600 Orang Asli and refugee school students.
Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad chief executive officer Juan Aranols said: “The Back-to-School programme has become one of our key annual community outreach programmes under Nestle Cares. As a company that cares deeply about people and communities, we are happy to have this opportunity to support students throughout Malaysia as they begin the new school term.”
He added: “Education should be accessible to all, and we hope our contributions will help these students from less affluent communities to learn effectively, as well as ensure they are better nourished.”
Empire Project founder Ashraf Khan said: “In line with our purpose of aiding communities regardless of background, we are pleased to have joined hands with Nestle since 2016 to support underserved students throughout Malaysia. The Nestle Cares Back-to-School initiative is a perfect example of how different organisations can come together to effectively serve the needs of communities.”
The Back-to-School programme has been running for about 10 years as part of Nestle’s employee volunteer programme, Nestle Cares. Through Nestle Cares, employees donated their time and talents in supporting activities, including programmes with underprivileged children, the disabled community as well as environmental initiatives.
