MR DIY recently gave away free haircuts to over 300 students in Selangor under its ‘Program Gunting Rambut’ initiative, as part of its efforts to promote greater awareness of better personal hygiene.
The programme was a joint initiative between the home improvement retailer, Joint Management Body (JMB) Pangsapuri Sri Bakawali in Bukit Sentosa, Rawang; Pusat Tuisyen Sinaran Impian and Pertubuhan Penggerak Komuniti Impian in Seri Kembangan.
“When times are challenging, everybody needs a little lift to the spirits. Many don’t have the privilege of going to the barber or salon monthly to get a haircut or getting our hair done professionally. Yet a good haircut can do wonders for the spirit and confidence.
“We developed this ‘Program Gunting Rambut’ as a perfect way to bring some cheer to the community, while at the same time building safer, healthier communities by promoting better personal hygiene. It’s a simple, fun, programme that benefits everyone,” said MR D.I.Y. group chairman Dato’ Azlam Shah Alias.
The programme was run in two sessions. In the first session, 20 volunteers from MR DIY and 10 hairdressers from GiatMara Ampang Jaya, DMZ Salon & Barber Academy and Eunoia Professional Hair Studio provided haircuts to 100 students from Pangsapuri Sri Bakawali in Bukit Sentosa, Rawang.
The second session saw 200 students from the Seri Kembangan area benefiting from haircuts jointly coordinated by 23 volunteers from MR DIY and 12 hairdressers from GiatMara Ampang Jaya.
The program’s highlight included a “Activity Zone” that featured STEM-based learning activities the students and their parents.
