MR. DIY has activated a school aid program to distribute milk, bread and mineral water to primary schools in Selangor, under its corporate social responsibility initiative.
The home improvement retailer said the “Healthy Meals by MR DIY” programme is aimed at helping combat increasing cases of malnourishment among schoolchildren as a result of rising cost of living and financial pressure on family budgets.
To date, the programme has benefitted 737 students in five primary schools under the purview of Hulu Langat district education office (PPD), in Selangor namely SK Bukit Raya Hulu Langat , SK Cheras Jaya Cheras, SK Taming Jaya Seri Kembangan, SK Kajang, and SK Leftenan Adnan Kajang.
The students are also recipients of the national Supplementary Food Programme (RMT) which gives free meals to primary school students from low-income households.
The Healthy Meals by MR DIY programme, supported by the Selangor State Education Department, aims to benefit more than 5,000 students in 25 primary schools in the state.
MR D.I.Y. Group chairman Dato’ Azlam Shah Alias said the initiative was aimed at helping combat increasing cases of malnourishment among schoolchildren as a result of rising cost of living and financial pressure on family budgets.
“As a Malaysian company, we see it as our role to help the communities in which we operate continue to thrive and grow. We continuously monitor emerging issues to see if there is a part that we can play in addressing them, and this lack of nourishment was something we took seriously.”
He continued, “Our position as a value retailer and our direct relationship with manufacturers means we have access to affordable products, including milk, bread and mineral water, which we source for the brands under our remit. We are very happy making these products available to primary school children as it ensures their continued wellbeing.”
Into its first few weeks, the “Healthy Meals by MR. DIY” distribution programme will continue throughout the school session this year.
