The Malaysia Official Designers’ Association (MODA) is celebrating its 30th anniversary of innovation and fashion excellence by hosting a variety of events at the National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur throughout December.

The month-long festivities kick-started on December 1 with the official launch of MODA’s coffee table book entitled “Malaysian Fashion: A Journey in Colour” charting the 30-year-history of the association.

MODA president Melinda Looi said that the publication of the book is a testament to the perseverance of MODA, constantly supporting and empowering the country’s fashion industry over the years.

“The work of international-class fashion designers, illustrious couturiers, masterful jewellers and promising designers are featured together in such an exclusive publication for the very first time,” she said.

The book unfolds the history of MODA’s journey throughout the past 30 years, as well as a compilation of acclaimed designers’ profiles and the exclusive artworks of 38 multi-talented MODA members.

As a special feature, the book doubles up as an adult colouring book with pages of sketches from the featured fashion designers.

According to Melinda, the idea and concept of the book were first mooted by a senior lecturer in fashion management of Raffles College of Higher Education, Sabi Sohrahbi to MODA’s training and education committee member Juita Jalil early last year.

The coffee table book finally materialized with the collective effort of Raffles International Fashion Business final year students and MODA members.

Melinda also expressed her gratitude to Raffles College as well as their students and staff who have worked tirelessly in producing the book.

Synchronously, the book launch was followed by the opening of a fashion exhibition showcasing the creative works of 30 renowned local and international fashion designers who are MODA members. The exhibition displaying each designer’s exclusive and signature design is held at the spiral walkway of the main stage of the National Art Gallery from December 1-30, 2022.

The exhibition kickstarted with a fashion show put up by each designer showcasing their collections.

The public is invited to attend, shop and participate in all the art and design workshops, trunk shows, fashion forums and sharing sessions which will be held at the main stage and auditorium.

MODA’s coffee table book, “Malaysian Fashion: A Journey In Colour” is priced at RM 149.90 available at the National Art Gallery bookstore and major BookXcess outlets.
