Malaysia’s home-grown popular noodle snack, Mamee Monster, is taking a trip down memory lane with throwback to retro packaging styles of the 1970s.
From March 2023 onwards for limited time only, Malaysians can see the iconic blue Mamee Monster back in its familiar 2D retro format with the Mamee Monster Family Pack as the products become available in Malaysia and Singapore.
This limited-edition packaging with vintage vibes is being rolled out as a tribute to Mamee-Double Decker’s late founder and executive chairman, Datuk Pang Chin Hin, who passed away in November 2022.
Mamee Monster noodle snack made its debut in 1974 after Datuk Pang’s eldest son, Mamee-Double Decker executive chairman Tan Sri Pang Tee Chew was driving through the estates in Alor Gajah, Malacca when he noticed rubber tappers eating the uncooked instant noodles straight from the packet
This led the Pang father-son duo to steer their noodle production in a new direction and with the existing technology that was at hand, they pre-season the noodles before selling them, which proved popular and became a hit.
“The Mamee Monster noodle snack has been the quintessential Malaysian childhood snack that has been spreading joy for decades.
“We have the late Datuk Pang to thank for that and this Mamee Monster Retro Campaign is our way of paying tribute to him and celebrating his life, his creativity and many contributions,” said Mamee-Double Decker chief marketing officer How Yuan Yi.
She added, “Mamee Monster was one of the first of Datuk Pang’s creations and he also created other memorable childhood snacks such as Double Decker prawn crackers, Mister Potato chips and Corntoz corn snacks.
“We hope that the Mamee Monster Retro campaign will give our consumers a chance to relive their childhood.
“In fact, we’d like to bring back some of those great memories to share with everyone and we’ll be rewarding consumers for that too.”
Mamee Monster lovers can look forward to winning cash prizes and exclusive merchandise from now until March 29, 2023.
To enter the contest, participants will need to make a minimum purchase of one Mamee Monster Family Pack Retro Limited Edition and follow the Mamee Monster Instagram account.
Participants will then need to take a creative picture of them enjoying the snack, include a caption of their favourite Mamee Monster memory and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #MameeMonsterWorldofNowstalgia and tag the @iammameemonster account.
Mamee Monster will select 80 weekly prize winners for the four contest weeks, each winner will receive RM200 cash and a limited-edition Mamee Monster Retro t-shirt and tote bag.
Mamee Monster Family Pack Retro Limited Edition are available in four flavours – Black Pepper, BBQ, Hot & Spicy, and Chicken and are priced at RM3.50 onwards.
The snacks can be found at major supermarkets, hypermarkets, mini-markets, petrol marts and convenience stores nationwide, as well as Mamee’s official store on Lazada and Shopee.
