Malaysia Sarong Music Run 2025 to bring together over 15,000 runners from 26 countries

The Malaysia Sarong Music Run (MSMR) is back and set to take centre stage this September 20, 2025, in conjunction with Malaysia Day.

Organised by Malaysia Marathon Official Sdn Bhd, MSMR 2025 is expected to gather over 15,000 runners from 26 countries, and thousands more attending to enjoy live performances, cultural showcases and a variety of Malaysian traditional dishes – all in the spirit of celebrating Malaysia Day.

In his opening address, Malaysia Marathon Official Sdn Bhd president Eddy Casmady highlighted the unique blend of sport, culture and lifestyle that sets MSMR apart.

“MSMR isn’t just another fun run. It’s a 5km journey where runners don sarongs, sampling traditional Malaysian food along the route while enjoying performances of live traditional music that keep spirits high from start to finish,” he said at the pre-launch ceremony of MSMR 2025, officiated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

This year’s MSMR offers three key events:

  • EKI Jetour X BSC Relay Run – a unique sarong relay held on Sept 9, 2025
  • 5km Speed Run (5k Malaysia Speed) – open to Malaysian citizens only, this race highlights both recreational and elite homegrown talent. Takes place on Sept 20, 2025
  • 5km Fun Run – open to everyone, including international tourists. Also, on Sept 20, 2025

The run starts at 6:30pm, turning the day into a full-fledged cultural celebration where food, music and community spirit take centre stage.

With the perfect blend of local flavour and international presence, MSMR 2025 is a cultural experience that reflects the heartbeat of the nation. The event is aligned with Malaysia’s goal to shine as a global tourism hotspot through Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

In a record-breaking twist, participants from 26 countries have signed up this year, firmly placing MSMR on the global map of cultural celebration.

With a vibrant mix of music, movement and tradition, MSMR 2025 is expected to draw over 30,000 visitors including runners, tourists, spectators and culture lovers.
