LaLaport, Japan’s favourite shopping mall, officially opens to the public at the Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) in Jalan Hang Tuah, Kuala Lumpur on Jan 20, 2022.
Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre (LaLaport BBCC) is Tokyo-based real estate company Mitsui Fudosan’s very first overseas retail facility in Southeast Asia.
It is Mitsui Fudosan’s second LaLaport shopping mall overseas after Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao which opened in April last year.
Spanning 41,800sqm, LaLaport BBCC occupies over 133,000sqm of floor space, with five floors above ground and 5 floors below, including two to five floors of basement parking for 2,400 units.
According to MFBBCC managing director Kohei Kawashima, about 400 stores with an optimal tenant mix will be opened in stages this year upon its opening. The mall is currently 70% occupied.
The shopping mall boasts a wide range of tenants and numerous well-known brands from Japan that are making its first appearance in Malaysia.
These popular brands from Japan include Nitori (furniture & interior specialty store), Nojima (digital & home appliance specialty store), Coo&RIKU (Japan’s largest pet shop with a cat café) and Star Child, a nursery school that incorporates Japanese-style childcare and intellectual education.
LaLaport BBCC is also offering Japanese food experiences with unique offerings, including Shin’Labo (Japanese-French fusion fine-dining), DONQ/Mini One (bakery), Matcha Eight (Japanese premium tea ice cream) and Yakiniku Sizzle by Yakiniquest (grilled meat cuisine). Visitors will also be able to savour the taste of local restaurants that are household names in Malaysia.
There is a Garden Dining food court at Level 4, with children’s spaces that boasts a 1,400-seating capacity.
Visitors can also have an enjoyable and relaxing experience in LaLaport BBCC as the mall provides many event spaces such as its “Central Rooftop Garden” with a large site of about 1,700sqm that is surrounded by greenery and trees and an aesthetic view of the bustling city.
LaLaport BBCC is part of the RM8.7 billion BBBCC project, a 7.9-hectare large-scale urban development launched in 2016, with diverse functions comprising a shopping mall, residences, serviced apartments, office buildings and hotels, with a total site area of about 78,500sqm on the former Pudu Jail.
Upon its full completion earmarked in 2025, the BBCC project is set to become the one and only landmark that proposes a new Japanese-based lifestyle, enabling the local community to “live, work, play and gather” in a more convenient way.
