Herbalife, a health and wellness company, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) has launched its first ever entrepreneurial programme, as part of its initiative to educate young Malaysians with economic opportunities anchored in health and nutrition.
The Entrepreneurial Programme at UiTM’s Malaysian Academy of SME and Entrepreneurship Development (MASMED) equips students with a holistic education to support successful career paths and enrich lives.
This is done through training on key entrepreneurial skills, coupled with imparting skills and knowledge to establish businesses rooted in nutrition, backed by Herbalife’s global reputation in the health and wellness sector.
Students will benefit from collective experience and individual guidance through mentorship from Herbalife’s distributor community, encompassing personal sessions, group interactions and real-world training.
The pilot programme was attended by 80 undergraduate students from the UiTM Shah Alam campus, and with the future aim of expanding to all 34 UiTM campuses across the nation.
Steven Chin, the senior director and general manager of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore stated: “We are pleased to continue strengthening our partnership with UiTM with this latest initiative, reflecting Herbalife’s efforts to help students have access to economic opportunities through coaching, training, mentorship and entrepreneurship empowerment.”
He added: “Given the increasing trend towards entrepreneurship among Gen Zs and millennials as indicated in our 2021 Asia Pacific Young Entrepreneurs Survey, coupled with rising obesity rates in Malaysia and interest in healthy ageing, the programme is aimed at helping to bridge gaps, furnishing young minds with the necessary tools, knowledge and entrepreneurial mindset to build businesses founded in health and wellness.”
Associate Prof Dr Raja Mohammed Firhad Raja Azidin, Dean, Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, UiTM Shah Alam, added, “We are always aiming to enrich our students’ transformative learning experiences with the industries. This programme with Herbalife provides a unique blend of practical entrepreneurial expertise, while emphasising the often-overlooked importance of health, fitness and well-being.”
Ts. Dr Nik Roselina Nik Roseley, director of the Student Entrepreneurship Centre, MASMED, UiTM Shah Alam, commented, “The collaboration with Herbalife represents a forward-thinking approach to students’ development, aligning entrepreneurship with healthy lifestyles. It is a strategic move that promises to equip our students with the dual tools of business acumen and personal wellness to face future challenges.”
The UiTM Herbalife Entrepreneurship Programme, an amalgamation of health and business opportunity, is a testament to the commitment both institutions towards shaping a resilient and vibrant future for Malaysian youth.
