Fonterra brings the goodness of milk to vulnerable families

Fifty families in PPR Lembah Subang 2, Petaling Jaya received free packs of Fernleaf and Anlene milk contributed by Fonterra.

New Zealand dairy co-operative Fonterra joined hands with Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia (YFBM), an NGO, to contribute Fernleaf and Anlene milk to support families from vulnerable communities, as part of its Good Together CSR initiative.

Fifty families in PPR Lembah Subang 2, Petaling Jaya received the contribution which served to kickstart YFBM’s nationwide initiative, Kembara Merdeka in July to support over 1,500 needy families, covering states, including Kedah, Perak, Pahang, Johor and Kelantan.

Carolyn Lim, Fonterra Malaysia people & culture director said the current economic uncertainties make it more difficult getting through hard times.

“We have a responsibility to keep our communities strong. Our dairy is so uniquely special, it has all the nutrients to help Malaysians live healthy and happy lives.”

With a long presence in Malaysia spanning 50 years, Fonterra’s dairy brands like Fernleaf emphasize its New Zealand provenance and natural goodness, owing to its grass-fed cows that help produce a natural source of nutrient-rich milk.

“Our dairy is produced in the most natural way possible. Our ways of working both on and off-farm is a testament to how our milk is produced naturally,” Lim added.

This year Fonterra marks it’s third year of collaboration with the national foodbank.

“Though we have the network to aid support for those in need, we rely on donations and sponsors from organizations to realize our objective in creating ‘zero hunger’ communities throughout Malaysia”, said Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia CEO Johan Halid, who expressed gratitude to Fonterra for the extend partnership now on its third year.
