DAMANSARA – The competition is a good platform for dancers who want to showcase their dancing talent and accomplishments said event organiser Kenji Chan.
Dancers are expected to ablaze the OVO Live Bistro’s dance floor at Damasara Uptown, SS21 in Petaling Jaya, when the Group Dance competition heats stage kicks off, from August 20 to September 3.
The event, which will be spread over five weeks with the heats on August 20, 27 and Sept 3, the semi final round on Sept 10 and the grand finals on Sept 17, will witness dancers skilled in styles like contemporary, tap, funk, hip-hop, jazz, kpop and break dance, competing for cash and prizes.
“The group dance competition show is held to promote OVO Live Bistro,” Kenji Chan, the event organiser, said after launching the event held at the bistro recently.
The entertainment and dining establishment serves an extensive and appetizing menu and has live bands entertainment.
“The competition is a good platform for dancers who want to showcase their dancing talent and accomplishments.”

“So far we have more than 20 entries received on the launching day and we are expecting more groups to sign up before the last heat on Sept 3.”
Kenji added that the competition heats might be increased when more entries are received.
12 groups would be selected for the final rounds by a panel of competition judges.
The judging criteria used are dance choreography (35%), teamwork (25%), technicality (10%), creativity (10%) and audience impact (20%).
The champion of Group Dance competition will receive cash and prizes worth RM5,000 while the first and second runner-up will get RM4,000 and RM3,000 worth of cash and prizes respectively.
There will be three subsidiary titles valued at RM350 each to be awarded for Best Choreography, Best Showmanship and Most Popular.
At the launch were three competition judges who presented some amazing dance performances for the guests, sponsors and partners present.
There were Nick (Fai) from Rhythm Music Dance Studio, Stephanie Low from Center Stage and a dance duo of Leynard Theseira and Dewi the Goddess from Dominican Republic with their Bachata dance.
The group dance competition is open to males and females aged 18 and above with a minimum of three to maximum eight dancers in the group which can be all from same or mixed gender.
A fee of RM50 will be imposed on each group as a registration fee and it will end on September 2. Each competing group will be allotted to a maximum of five minutes for their presentation.
Main sponsors of the event are Tiger Beer, Dewar’s, Maxi Rewards, K-City Family Karaoke and Kaspersky.
