In response to the Covid-19 pandemic and flood disasters that have already affected many livelihoods, Carlsberg Malaysia has pledged a total of RM2 million in aid via two CSR initiatives to help underprivileged Malaysians weather current challenging times this festive season.

The first initiative called ‘Celebrate Prosperity, Cheers For Tomorrow’ food aid campaign involved a RM1 million allocation where 2,000 underprivileged families will receive RM500 each in food aid.

Carlsberg has partnered with local media corporations for the food aid campaign including The Sun, Star Foundation, Yayasan Nanyang Press, The Borneo Post and See Hua Daily News.

Those who are affected by the pandemic may apply for the aid with the respective media foundations or corporations, with priority given to orphans, families with single parent and OKU, and individuals from B40 group.

In the second initiative targeted at Malaysian citizens currently pursuing tertiary education, the company partnered with The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) disbursing RM1 million to the Carlsberg-Huazong Education Fund to provide education aid for 333 tertiary students as a one-off donation, with each student getting RM3,000

Applicants may apply via Huazong at www.huazong.my from Feb 1 to 21. The fund will also consider waiving interest-free study loan repayments for beneficiaries who are facing financial difficulties.

“We understand that many Malaysians are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the unfortunate floods in several states. As we remain hopeful for the new year, we are sensitive to the current sentiment. We hope the RM1 million worth of food essentials to 2,000 families in need can rejoice while keeping celebrations moderate,” said Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini.

In addition, Carlsberg will also be gifting a one-year supply of Carlsberg beers to lucky winners of its Chinese New Year 2021 campaign ‘Cheers Together’. Consumers can nominate their family and friends and share their story via Carlsberg’s official social media pages at www.facebook.com/CarlsbergMY and www.instagram.com/CarlsbergMY, with nominations open from Jan 22 to 29.
