Canon Marketing Malaysia has been awarded with ‘Company of The Year’ for the fifth consecutive year since 2018 and brought back its first ever ‘Long-Standing Excellence in Sustainability’ at the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2022, held in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The awards were given in recognition of the company’s commitment to CSR and sustainability initiatives conducted in 2021 that brought a positive impact on the lives of local communities.

The company had initiated several programmes which included tree planting, book donations, humanitarian and disaster relief efforts, financial aid and career workshops.

“I’m greatly humbled by Canon’s double-award win, which has only been possible thanks to the dedication and commitment of all our employees,” said Canon Marketing Malaysia human resources and general affairs director Julia Cheah.

She continued, “Balancing business growth with commitment to the environment is a key attribute to Canon’s success today, as well as the cornerstone of all our future activities and policies.

“We have done various environmental and social initiatives over the past 35 years since our establishment in Malaysia, and are constantly strengthening our company policies in terms of governance. We aspire to work hand-in-hand with local communities to create avenues of positive impact nationwide.”

The company’s annual tree planting event “One Canon One Tree” saw Canon employees planted trees to contribute to a greener environment. Since 2016 more than 8,000 trees have been planted including 511 trees planted as a food source for the endangered Malayan Tapir.

Under the “Canon Young Readers Programme”, Canon has donated more than 200 books to underprivileged children, encouraging youngsters to read. Last year, the programme supported the printing and promotion of a book on children’s body safety.

The humanitarian and disaster relief efforts provided food aid which supported 500 families nationwide during the pandemic and essential supplies distribution to flood victims.

Other CSR initiatives include the International Women’s Day campaigns, financial aid for students at UOW Malaysia KDU and various photography, videography and printing workshops that benefit underserved communities.

The Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2022 is organized by CSR Malaysia, a publication and social initiative under the auspices of the Pertubuhan Amal Tanggungjawab Kemapanan Dan Korporat Malaysia (a national body for Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility).
