The Malaysian bookstore chain BookXcess has opened the doors of its 16th outlet located inside the former REX cinema, an iconic and historical landmark that has been revived as a cultural community hub in Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown.

Visitors walking through the immersive space of the maze-like outlet with its many secret corners can get lost amongst towering floor-to-ceiling shelves that are filled with over 80,000 books.

BookXcess REXKL in Jalan Sultan is on the second floor. It overs an area of  10,708.55 sq. ft.

The book-laden, ceiling-high shelves give visitors a whole new unconventional retail experience that will ignite their adventurous spirit.

Visitors can browse through shelves upon shelves of a wide range of well-curated books that stretch from floor to ceiling to search for the titles that catch their fancy.

BookXcess REXKL will take visitors on a journey that will evoke a myriad of emotions. The well-preserved façade with its pillars, floor and wall tiles and the flight of stairs of the old cinema spark feelings of nostalgia.

There are also plenty of Instagram-able spots to take photos of the dazling floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and art portraits.

Artworks from Malaysian and Indonesian artists adorn the walls of the bookstore. They are curated by ARTisFAIR/KL and are available for sale.

BookXcess is connected to Shhhbuuuleee restaurant located on the building’s third floor rooftop. A great place to go for a few drinks and a light meal after browsing through books.
