BookXcess has unveiled an unconventional bookstore, its 13th outlet, located at MyTown shopping centre in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
The new outlet sells more than book. It mixes books with other interests.
With 31,200 square feet of retail space, the bookstore offers more than 170,000 books in a wide variety of categories, gifts and stationery, a cosy cafe, a Japanese restaurant, an art gallery and even a co-working space. You can also get some OOTD photo-worthy spots here.
With its unique architectural designed space and feature to elicit surprises at every turn, BookXcess MyTown will lead you on a journey that will evoke a myriad of emotions.
The store even has a bathtub that is filled with waterproof bath books for toddlers and a piano too for anyone curious enough to sit down and play.
The artsy decor, hand-painted mini mouse characters on the walls and a unique art piece in the form of a life-sized baby Elephant Parade statue add a touch of quirkiness and creativity to the overall aesthetics of the retail space.
The atmosphere is further enhanced with the sounds of ‘vibing music’ pulsating throughout the retail floor.
Additionally, the unique space and milieu also doubles up as a co-working space with free wi-fi for those looking for a place to get work done.
Underneath the piazza is an art gallery that aims to promote specially commissioned artworks by local artists for sale at very affordable prices.
The bookstore has two F&B outlets. The Ume Tei 梅亭 serves classic Japanese Teishoku (set meals) and noodles dishes. While the Whisk specializes in coffee and serves up a delicious line up of home-baked desserts. So you can sit back and have a nice meal, or a relaxing moment with a nice beverage and looking at your book.
BookXcess founder Andrew Yap said the company is re-imagining and innovating itself by creating a ‘one-of-a-kind’ experiential space that is both contemporary and yet imaginative to serve a purpose beyond discovering new books.
“When customers step into BookXcess MyTown to browse through the maze of books, we want to give them an unforgettable retail experience filled with knowledge, art and music and cuisine,” he said.
The special bookstore is definitely a must-visit for book lovers. Be prepared not to emerge for a few hours because you can spend hours browsing the large selection of books on the shelves, finding greeting cards for special occasions, seeping delicious coffee or tea at the cafe, enjoying your ramen set at the Japanese restaurant, be awed by the artworks of local artists alongside colourful pop art, and the list goes on.
